Youth in Grade 7 and 8 are invited to attend Confirmation Classes to study and broaden their faith.
Confirmation is the period of the Christian life for teenagers when they learn more about Jesus, the Bible and our Catechism, preparing especially to start receiving Holy Communion. It happens in the span of two years, from October to May. At the end of the period of studies, a Confirmation Sunday Service is held in early June, where confirmands confirm publicly their Baptismal faith and start to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Confirmation Sunday happens on the first Sunday of June.
Our Confirmation Classes at Hope happen in the following ways:
–Online Lessons – Pastor Lucas sends a weekly email to 1st and 2nd Year Confirmands with a the topic of the week and an activity.
-In person meetings– Once a month, on Sunday before the Service, the two classes get together for a 40 minute meeting.
–Confirmation Retreats – Our confirmands join students from other Lutheran Churches in the area for 6 annual two-day retreats (7pm Friday – after lunch Saturday). They learn, share and have fellowship. It is a two year program with the following content
1 – Books of Moses; History, Prophets, Poetry and Wisdom; Jesus’ birth and Ministry; Jesus’ Death and Resurrection, Acts; Epistles.
2 – Apostle’s Creed, Baptism. Confession and Absolution + Worship, Ten Commandments, Lord’s Prayer, Holy Supper
