Air Quality School Response
As you are aware we are currently in a stretch of weather that has allowed the smoke from wildfires to remain quite high in our area, resulting in poor air quality. Our school has taken a number of steps to address this issue for the health and safety of our staff and students.
- All outdoor PE lessons have moved indoors
- Outdoor Recess and Lunch is optional for students (some may choose to be outside, with or without their masks). Students will be supervised by classroom teachers inside as well as outdoors.
- Doors will be propped open as little as possible.
- Classrooms will keep their windows closed and monitor the inside temperature.
- HEPA filters will be on and in use, along with our normal ventilation.
We thank you for your support and understanding of these measures as we balance COVID and Air Quality health and safety issues. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the respective campus administration.
Our first PTL meeting is Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 pm over Zoom. We hope as many parents as possible will be able to connect. Connection details will be sent on Tuesday in an email to all parent
Welcome to the 2020/2021 school year! As parents, we find encouragement and strength through prayer, from reading the Bible, and in community with one another. When you think about this year ahead do you feel anxious? Are you needing wisdom or encouragement? Do you want to spend time getting to know a few more parents? Or maybe you have the heart to pray for our school families, staff, and city.
Everyone is welcome to join us for Parent Prayer every Monday evening on Zoom from 7:00 – 7:30 pm (except for holidays).

Km Club Starting Soon!
Kilometer (Km) Club will be starting on Monday, September 21st, and run for five weeks. This year we need to conduct a hybrid approach with 30 minute runs happening from home and 20 min runs during the time at school each Wednesday. Take some time this week to map out a 1km route to run from home. A link to the Km Club class lists will be shared with you to enable lap entries from home.
Shoe tokens will be awarded for each 7km run. To mark our 25th anniversary, a special “25” token will be awarded for every 25 kilometers achieved!
Parents of K-5, please ensure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather each Wednesday, having outdoor running shoes and a water bottle. Additionally, please have a change of socks for your child.
Even though our opportunities to gather are limited, we can still find ways to connect through volunteering with other parents.
Km Club is starting Monday, Sept. 21st and we need 3-4 parents to help with wristbands on Friday, Sept. 18th at 9 am in the PoCo Campus library. Please email Lisa Klym at [email protected] if you are able to assist.
We also require parents from each grade to assist with their class supervision each Wednesday during the DPA time. A schedule will be provided shortly.
Hope Lutheran now has an account with the Biggar Bottle Depot at 2577 Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam. When returning your empty beverages containers, please consider applying your refund to the Hope Lutheran account by telling the cashier to apply the refund to Hope Lutheran School. All money raised will go towards supporting initiatives that directly benefit our students.
Additionally, we will be launching a recycling fundraising program with ReturnIt Express BC at a later date. Pre-labeled recycling bags will be sent home with your youngest child and your beverage recycling can be returned at any BC Return-It Express station. Stay tuned for further details!

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for students in grades 5-8 focusing on connecting students with Jesus and one another.

Terry Fox Run: 40th Anniversary of the Marathon of Hope!
Hope Lutheran Christian School will be participating in this year’s 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope on October 1st. Please help show your support by donating to our school’s online fundraising page http://www.terryfox.ca/HopeLutheranChristianSchool. Parents are encouraged to help their child(ren) create their own fundraising page – just follow the directions given on the link above. In order to keep our kids safe, individual classes will be running throughout the day. Remember to wear red and/or white.
