Grade 6 Immunizations will take place on October 10th. Immunization Consent forms ware sent home with your child last week. If you have any questions regarding your child’s immunization or completing the consent form, please contact our public health nurse, Leslie Billinton at 604-476-7004.

PTL News

Clarification on Driving for Field Trips

There has been some confusion lately surrounding the policy of parents driving for field trips and the volunteer hours granted.  Please be advised, our policy is:

  1. In order to claim volunteer hours, you must drive at least one other child, in addition to your own, and supervise all children who traveled with you when you are at the field trip venue.
  2. If you choose to drive your child only, you do not get to claim volunteer hours.
  3. If you travel with another parent and are helping to supervise children, you may claim the volunteer hours spent while on the field trip.
  4. Drivers are generally on a first-come, first-serve basis, however, those drivers who can take more students get precedence.  If your class has enough drivers, it is at the discretion of the teacher or Class Liaison to decline additional drivers.

Parents are strongly encouraged to drive multiple students.  Many of our field trip venues have limited space and if a parent is driving their child only, that adds to the numbers and does not help with the supervision of a group of children.

Proper supervision of children on field trips includes being attentive and engaged during tours and instruction.  Interacting with students and ensuring they are behaving respectfully and appropriately; ensuring children are not taking any safety risks or damaging property.  Cell phone use is discouraged, except for extenuating circumstances where you must be in contact with someone. Smoking/vaping is prohibited at all school activities, including while driving students.  Additionally, drivers are not to be purchasing special treats to and from the field trip, such as McDonald’s or Tim Horton’s.

Lunchtime Supervision

Date Change to Next PTL General Meeting

Please mark your calendars – November’s PTL meeting is changed from Nov. 1st to Nov. 15.  The meeting will be hosted at the Port Coquitlam campus followed by a PTL Coffee Fellowship.

LEST Parent Information Meeting 

Wednesday, October 16 @ 6:30 pm

Middle school parents are invited to attend a very important info session regarding LEST (Lutheran Elementary Schools Tournament) 2020 in Portland, Oregon. We will be discussing everything from transportation to event registration to fundraising. Please mark this important date on your calendar and plan to join us! We are asking that parents make a decision regarding their child’s involvement by November 1st at which time a deposit will be due. Students are more than welcome to attend but must remain in the meeting, seated with their parent(s) and listening.

Grade 7/8 Paddling/Hiking Field Trip

Thanks to the generous funding of our PTL, our grade 7/8 students will have the opportunity to participate in a special PE activity on October 16.  They will be paddling across Pitt Lake and up Widgeon Creek, then hiking up to a waterfall where they will enjoy their packed lunch before heading back the same way. Students must have permission to attend this activity.  Parent drivers are needed, but we are not in need of supervisors during the actual activity. Grade 7/8 parents, please look for the email with the permission form.  

Grade 6/7 Cross Country

This is the last chance to register your child for Grade 6/7 Cross Country.  If students are interested in attending the meet, they should be participating in KM Club or setting an alternate training schedule in consultation with their parents and Mrs. Olding.  Students who are signed up for Cross Country do not need a parent to supervise at KM Club, as Mrs. Olding will be supervising as the coach. WE ARE IN NEED OF AT LEAST FOUR runners in each grade/gender category in order to score team points for our school. If your child plays basketball or soccer, please consider this excellent cross-training opportunity. Please ensure you have completed this form: https://forms.gle/MepSzKLeK7E7BjLbA . The deadline to register is this Wednesday (October 9).

Grade 6/7 Tripleball

Girls and Boys Tripleball (precursor to volleyball) will be starting this month. Boys Triple Ball team will begin next week and practices will be Monday at lunch and Thursday after school. Girls Tripleball will start Monday, October 21 to Nov 4 at 3:00 – 4:00 pm.  Stay tuned for more information. The tournaments are on November 14th.

The Well

Order Butter Chicken with rice and naan bread for $5.00 by Wednesday, October 9th.  Lunch will be served on Friday, October 11th. There will also be cupcakes, chips and ice cream sandwiches for sale.

Hope Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith! 

Due to the Thanksgiving long weekend, there is no event this weekend. 

Yearbook Orders 

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.

Yearbooks will be delivered in June before students leave for the summer holidays.  Any 2019/20 yearbooks are not picked up by June 30, 2021, will be used for school purposes.
