PTL News

  • Volunteer Opportunities – 2019/2020 School Year
  • 1.Parent/Teacher Conference Dinner:  We would like to bless the staff by providing them dinner on Thursday, October 24 during the Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Main course meals are still needed.  If you are able to help with providing a main course meal, please sign up at the following link:  P.M.   • 2.The Well:  Our food services club, The Well, is in need of one parent a week to assist in the clean up each Friday after the meal service.  If you are able to spare an hour over the lunch period, they would greatly appreciate your assistance.   • 3.Lunchtime Supervision:  We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the Pitt Meadows Campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day.  Orientation will be provided by Ms. Nast.   • 4. Bethlehem Walk: A number of our scenes need repairing or updating.  A workday is planned for Saturday, October. 26th from 8:45-12:00 at the PoCo Campus.  Volunteer opportunities are available for those experienced in construction as well as people able to add paint colour to pre-drawn set scenes.  If you are able to help out, please sign up on the following link: Bethlehem Walk Work Day


  • 5. Baking:  Get a jump on your Christmas baking and earn some volunteer hours at the same time.  The Bethlehem Walk production, Dec. 17 & 18, requires 80 dozen pieces of assorted cookies and squares per evening!  Please sign up at the following link and keep your baking in your freezer until the afternoon of the performance: Bethlehem Walk Refreshments


  • 6. PTL Secretary:  The PTL Executive needs a Secretary.  Requirements are to attend each PTL meeting, record discussion items and compile meeting minutes for distribution.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested in this position.

    Special Showing of Screenagers:  Growing Up In The Digital Age

    The PTL is hosting a special one-time showing of the documentary Screenagers on Saturday, November 16th from 9:30-11:30am at the Hollywood 3 Cinemas in Pitt Meadows.

    Screenagers is an award-winning film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world.

    All Parents and any students 10 years and older are invited to attend.  Please indicate your attendance in the following link: Interest in Screenagers  Please be sure to submit this form by October 30th so we can adequately plan.

In Other News…

Welcoming a New Staff Member

We are excited and thankful that God has provided an individual to take over for Mrs. Paul when she goes on maternity leave the second week of November. Mrs. Lavan Knowles-Vassor will be joining our Hope middle school staff beginning October 31st as this will give Mrs. Paul time to pass things over to her before she leaves. Please help us to welcome Mrs. Knowles-Vassor to our HLCS community and take a moment to thank Mrs. Paul for her service teaching at our middle school campus. We wish her all the best and can’t wait to meet the newest member of the Paul family!

Photo Retake Oct 29

Photo retakes will take place on October 29 at the POCO campus. Students  need to be dropped off at the Poco campus in the morning and then students will be transported to Pitt Meadows campus by a teacher driver

Important Notice Re: 2020 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings

This is a reminder that if your family has a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2020 (born in 2015), the 2020 Kindergarten sibling application form and back up documents must be submitted to the Port Coquitlam campus office by Friday, October 25th. If you have any questions, please contact Clare Wood directly at [email protected], prior to the October 25th deadline.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be taking place on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, October 24th       1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Friday, October 25th            9:00 am – 12:00 noon 

Middle School: Parent, Student, and Teacher, 15 minutes each.

Grade 6 students –  a conference is required with the homeroom teacher, and optional with other subject-specific teachers.  

Math platoons will not be covered during these meeting times. Parents are welcome to contact their child’s math platoon teacher to arrange to meet at another time.

Grade 7/8 students – conferences will be with subject-specific teachers and a minimum of 2 conferences are required. 

Additional conferences will be available with the Music, French, EAL, and PE teachers, where applicable.

 2019 Parent-Teacher Conferences

The online booking calendar opened at 8:00 am on Monday, October 14th, and closes at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 23rd. Each family will need to create a login account in order to use the system. Phone bookings will not be taken.

Grade 6/7 Tripleball

Due to changes in scheduling and facilities coordination, boys’ triple ball practices will now move to Tuesday afterschool 2:55 till 4:15 and Wednesday at lunch. Mr. Yee’s chess club will move from Thursday lunch to Wednesday lunch. Girls’ tripleball practices will be on Mondays from 3 – 4 pm and Thursdays at lunch

The Well

The next hot lunch at The Well will be on Friday, November 1st.  Order forms for pulled pork sandwiches will go out next week..

Hope Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith! 

Our next event is this Saturday, October 26th from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Yearbook Orders 

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.

    • complete the form in this link – YEARBOOK ORDER FORM, make the cheque out to Hope Lutheran School and return both to the school
    • on the cheque subject line, please write your child’s name, their class,  and “Yearbook 2019/20”
  • Online: go to the following link and follow the instructions


Yearbooks will be delivered in June before students leave for the summer holidays.  Any 2019/20 yearbooks are not picked up by June 30, 2021, will be used for school purposes.
