Important Notice Re: 2022 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings

Although it feels like the school year has just begun, in the office, we are already preparing for next September!

Each year we set aside spaces in our upcoming Kindergarten classes for potential incoming siblings. This information is determined by what a family has entered on the registration form of their older child.

We recognize that it may have been over 5 years since the first student in a family joined us at Hope Lutheran, and new siblings may have been added, or this section might not have been completed by the family at the time of registration.

If you have a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2022 (born in 2017), and you did not receive a direct email from our registrar Clare Wood regarding the 2022 Kindergarten sibling application process, please contact Clare directly at [email protected], by no later than Friday, October 22, 2021.

$2 Wacky Wednesday for Operation Christmas Child

On Wednesday, October 27, middle school students are invited to participate in our Wacky Wednesday fundraiser for Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child. Students are encouraged to dress wacky (clothes backwards, unique colour combinations, etc.), do their hair in a wacky way or wear a wacky hat! To participate, students need to bring $2 which will help to fill the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes – the middle school goal is 30 shoeboxes!! A shout out to the Grade 7/8 class and Mr. O’Dell who are organizing the collection of money from the classes and then shopping to fill the shoeboxes.

Volunteer Driving for Field Trips

We are very glad for the return of field trips this year!  With that, the school office would like to inform, or remind, our parent community what documentation is required to be on file with the school office every school year before volunteer driving:

  • Volunteer Driver Agreement & Vehicle Specifications Form
  • current copy of vehicle’s registration and insurance papers (minimum 2,000,000 3rd party liability required)
  • current copy of the driver’s personal driving record

Available free of charge from ICBC online link:

http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/getting-licensed/Pages/Your-driving-record.aspx

  • current eCriminal Record Clearance (eCRC) letter on file at the school office (an eCRC has an expiry date of five years)

Our Volunteer Driver Package is also available for download on the school website under the tab of PARENTS, then VOLUNTEERS.

Thank you to our parent community for your willingness to drive and supervise our students on upcoming field trips this school year.

The 2021-2022 Year Book

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

If you would like to order a yearbook, you may do so either by cheque or online Hope Lutheran Christian School (please no cash). You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering your yearbook is April 1st, 2022. Your child was given a yearbook order form today. Please complete the form and return with a cheque or go to the online ordering link and follow the instructions to order your yearbook. Thank you for your support in ensuring we have yet another amazing yearbook to showcase our students’ memories at Hope this academic year!

2021/2022 Climbing Club

Just a reminder that our Hope Lutheran Christian School Climbing Club started today, October 18th, and will run until March 2022. If you would like to register your child, please let me know as soon as possible as numbers are limited. The Climbing Club is for middle school students only, and runs on Mondays (except Holidays/Pro-Ds) from 2:45 pm-4:00 pm. If your child would like to participate in this activity, they need to purchase their own climbing harness, climbing shoes and chalk/chalk bag. This gear can be purchased at Mountain Equipment Co-op or Atmosphere. If your child participated in Climbing Club last year, or were enrolled at the middle school, we already have a waiver on file. If your child is in Grade 6 or new to the middle school they will need to complete a waiver form (available at the office or see link below to print at home) and return it to school signed by their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) before they will be able to participate.

Climbing Wall Waiver

Hope to see your child out soon,

Mr. O’Dell

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

PTL News

Parent Volunteering

Thank you to those parents who have signed up to provide food items to bless our teachers during their mealtime on October 28th.  We are still in need of a parent to prepare food items at the Elementary Campus from 3:00-4:00:  P/T Conference Dinner

Falling Leaves + Wet Weather = Street Flooding at Elementary Campus

Help keep little feet dry.  On an as-needed basis, parents are encouraged to bring a shovel and pull the leaves away from the curb enough to allow water to flow into the catch basins.  If the leaves aren’t cleared from the curb, water collects at the entrance to the school driveway and at the crosswalk, causing very large puddles to form.  Time spent on this act of service will count towards parent participation hours.

An ongoing list of volunteer opportunities can be found here:  2021-22 Volunteer Opportunities

Km Club

Km Club finishes this Wednesday.  Thank you to all the parents who helped to make our running club a success.  Wishing our cross-country participants a good race on Thursday.  You’ve trained for this – go out and make it a personal best!

Parents, now that you’ve seen how Km Club is managed, are there a few parents who are able to oversee the running of our spring club?  Please contact Lisa at [email protected] if you are able to help organize and manage the spring club.  Km Club starts up the first day after spring break.

Family Portraits Fundraiser

If you have signed up for a photo session, please ensure payment ($50 cash or cheque) has been submitted to the office, addressed to Michelle O’Dell, PRIOR to your photo session date.

Spots are still available for prime photo sessions for our Family Portraits Fundraiser.  Outdoor photoshoots take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to October 23.  This is a great opportunity for families to have a professional photo taken with a portion of the session fee directly benefiting the school.

To sign up for a session time, please register here:  Photo Sessions (please note the two tabs, for Weds/Thurs & Sat).
