Face Masks for Students

Today the middle school students were each given an assortment of face masks provided by the school. The 25 disposable masks (per student) were a generous donation from T&T Supermarket. Thank you T&T Supermarket! At this time each student is also receiving a reusable cloth mask. Unfortunately, there was a problem with our middle school order and we are still trying to resolve it, so students are only receiving one reusable mask at this time.

Remembrance Day Poppies

Poppies are currently available at the middle school office. Students are encouraged to bring a donation tomorrow ($1 suggested) to support the Royal Canadian Legion and so they have a poppy to wear during our middle school Remembrance Day Assembly

Climbing Club

Based on student and staff availability, the Climbing Club will commence on Monday, November 2nd, 2020. The club will take place every Monday and Thursday (excluding holidays and long weekends) until June 10th, 2021 from 3:10 pm-4:30 pm.

Students will be required to bring the following items: climbing shoes, harness, and chalk (chalk bag/liquid chalk). This will ensure that students are not sharing equipment, keeping the Climbing Club as safe as possible.

Students wanting to participate are required to sign up by completing this Google Form: https://forms.gle/tkkLYiJWEmFBavRX7

The Climbing Club will be limited to 15 students to ensure safety and proper social distancing. Students will be required to wear masks when belaying and climbing, and wash/sanitize hands prior to climbing. The Climbing Club will have focused training/climbing at the middle school campus, but there will be opportunities to climb at local gyms in the area, in the future. Students/parents will be expected to cover any additional costs related to these outings if the student chooses to attend.

I look forward to seeing you out on our wall,

Mr. O’Dell

Artificial Christmas Trees Needed

We’d like to bring some fun, Christmas cheer to our students and have each grade decorate and display a tree at their campus.  Do you have an artificial tree standing 4-6 feet tall that we could borrow starting December 7th?   Please respond by this Friday, emailing the PTL at [email protected] if you are able to lend us a tree.  We are looking to obtain a maximum of 9 trees.

Fundraising

The Card Project

Students in Grade 6 and 7 should have brought home their own unique Christmas card along with information about how parents can order this design as a Christmas card, planner, notebook, art print, and more! Each student’s design has a unique code that parents will need when ordering online: www.TheCardProject.ca Thank you for your support in this creative fundraiser!

The cover letter included with each child’s card explains how to order.

Priority Orders are due by Sunday, November 8 (for delivery in the week of November 23-27)

The Final Order deadline is November 22 (for delivery in the week of December 7-11)

SOFund – Gift Cards

The Student Opportunity Fund (SOFund) was an initiative started last year to raise funds for enhancing student life at school and experiences in learning. Funds are raised through the purchase of gift cards from various businesses with FundScrip.  All students on-site at the school will be bringing home a letter today explaining the fundraiser and an order form.  All off-site learning families have received the same information through an email sent out today. Thank you for supporting this simple and effective way to raise funds for students.

Recycling

Our recycling fundraiser is ongoing.  Please drop off your Hope labeled bag at your nearest ReturnIt BC location.  So far we’ve raised $165 through your donations of bottles and can

Opportunity for Service

This year, opportunities for us to serve others are limited but, as a member of Hope’s community, you can still make a difference in the life of deserving families in the Tri-Cities.

Our annual Christmas food drive is starting soon.  We encourage families to support this initiative that will benefit others who are struggling this season.

If you have a recommendation for a family to receive a hamper, please send Mr. Lok a short description of why you are recommending them and their contact details.  ([email protected])

  • Parents should have received an email from their class liaison with a link to a Sign-Up Genius sheet listing the items necessary to be fulfilled.  In an effort to avoid duplication of items, the items are specific to each class.  For example, Kindergarten to bring listed breakfast items, Grade 1 to bring listed personal items, and so on. (This way, we don’t end up with multiples of the same item).
  • Starting on Monday, November 16, Christmas wrapped collection boxes will be placed in each classroom for Kindergarten through Grade 8.
  • Donations will be collected for 2 weeks – Monday, November 16 until Monday, November 30.
  • Donations of cash & gift cards can be taken to the school office for safekeeping.
  • Contributions are voluntary.
  • For health and safety reasons please ensure all donated items are new and unwrapped. (If food item, please ensure it is not past expiry date).

Thank you for your help & support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Gemma Hooper at [email protected].
