Is your beverage recycling piling up after the holidays?  Return your containers and help out the school at the same time.

HLCS recycling labels are available in each campus office.  Place this label on your recycling bag and drop it off at your nearest Return-It Depot – all eligible containers will be credited to our Hope Lutheran School account.

Has your child grown; needing some additional uniform pieces?  We have a number of donated pieces suitable for the K-5 level.  If you are looking for specific pieces, please let Lisa Klym know sizing details and we’ll pass on what’s available ([email protected]).

Our Used Uniform Buy & Sell page on Facebook is active and all posts are up-to-date.  There are many pieces available at a fraction of the price of a new item – please take the time to browse:  HLCS Used Uniform Buy & Sell.

Our uniform policy and ordering code for new items is located here on our website.  Please ensure you are complying with our outlined uniform policy.

Submissions are open for the February newsletter.  Do you have an achievement to share or a service project you’ve engaged in?

Please submit your stories, including any applicable photos, to Lisa Klym at [email protected].

A student prayer group has started at the middle school lead by Mrs. Edema and Mrs. Klym.  The group meets at lunchtime in the computer room each Thursday starting at 12:15.  All students are invited to bring their lunch and join in prayer for 15-20 minutes.

Collecting Cardboard Egg Cartons

Over the next couple of months, the middle school students will be working with the BC Mission Boat Society to put together Easter Kits that will be sent to families in remote First Nations communities. One of the items in the kits will be Resurrection Eggs. We are in need of 300 cardboard egg cartons (12 capacity, with lid; NO plastic or styrofoam). Please start saving your egg cartons and send them with your child. They can be dropped off just outside the office in the labeled box. Watch for more information about this exciting missions project!

Badminton Program – Winter Season

PI Academy Sports is once again delighted to be able to offer badminton at Hope this winter season! To better cope with Covid19, the number of classes and participants have been further reduced and limited to two classes at the Port Coquitlam (Elementary) campus and one at the Pitt Meadows (Middle School) campus. Please choose the appropriate lesson day designated by your child’s grade.

Thank you to all the parents and the staff at Hope for your great support of the badminton program, and continue to allow the students to learn through purposeful-play.

Payment options:

  1. E-transfer (preferred):  [email protected]
  2. Cash (in-person on your child’s first lesson)

Please find the link HERE to the Signup Genius Winter season 2021 registration

Additional notes:

  1. Students will have their temperature checked (non-touch forehead) prior to the start of each lesson. Those showing 38 degrees or above or display physical signs of other ill symptoms, and subject to the Coach’s discretion, the student will not be able to participate in that lesson. The parents will be contacted for immediate pick up of their child. If a child is sent home or missed a lesson due to illness, a credit for that lesson will be applied to your account for future redemption.
  2. No make-up classes. No switching classes at any time
  3. Students will be reminded and when possible to keep at least a 2M distance from others during the lessons, and casual discussions
  4. Students will be reminded to wash their hands frequently
  5. No sharing of rackets
  6. School rackets will be sanitized before and after use
  7. Congratulatory gestures will be done by touching rackets or hand gestures

The current schedule is:

Anniversary Musical Actor Auditions!

We are calling all actors from grades 3-8 to come audition to be a part of our FANTABULOUS, WACKY, FUN, NOSTALGIC WHOLE-SCHOOL, musical event this April. Every class will be performing a musical number in this revue production; however, we will need a small troupe of actors to help tell the story in between these musical numbers.

Auditions will take place at the Port Coquitlam (Elementary) campus on Fridays, January 15, and January 29 from 3:05 – 4:30 pm. Use the SIGN-UP LINK below to book your slot. Auditions are open for Grade 3-8. Please wait outside the chapel, distanced and masked, while on the bench until you are called in to audition. You will need to prepare a one minute, memorized monologue and one minute of a song. Be prepared to sing along with the teachers at one point too! Please contact Mrs. MacLean at school or by email ([email protected]) if you would like some examples of monologues or songs to prepare.

** Safety Information: All rehearsals will take place in our gymnasium with actors distanced by cohort. We will be casting by cohort as part of our safety plan. Many grades will be a part of this play, but each cohort will be alone on stage or distanced from each other. Masks will be required during rehearsals.

We hope to see you all come out for this special anniversary musical revue!  Please sign-up here: HLCS Anniversary Musical Audition Sign Up.

Extreme Weather Closures

With the forecast of snow this coming weekend, please note the following important information regarding Hope Lutheran Christian School closures due to extreme weather:

  1. The decision to close (full day or partial day/late start) the School due to extreme weather will be made by 7:00 amon the day of the closure, so families can make alternate arrangements.
  2. The announcement will be posted as quickly as possible on our Facebook page and our school website. Do not phone the school, as staff will not be available.
  3. The decision will be made taking into consideration the safety of our families and staff, and the School’s ability to operate normally, and will be based on the best information available at the time.
  4. Any extreme weather closures will automatically apply to both campuses, and Schola Bohemia – Before and After School Care.
  5. Hope Lutheran’s extreme weather closures may not be the same as the local School Districts’ closures.
  6. Winter weather can change quickly, therefore, when the School remains open, all decisions regarding travel to and from the School are the responsibility of each family.
