Suspension of Band Classes

Due to the higher levels of community transmission of the Omicron variant and the fact that we are not able to provide students with the space to adequately physically distance themselves while their masks are off and they are playing their band instruments, Miss Allen will be switching from band to drama classes at the middle school for the time being or until the protocols can be relaxed. Unless parents and students are notified about a return to band classes, Grade 6-8 students do not need to bring their band instrument to school. Of course, they are encouraged to keep practicing at home to keep up their skills.

Upcoming Purdy’s Chocolate Bar Fundraiser

As a way to help our Hope families celebrate Chinese New Year (February 1) and Valentine’s Day (February 14), the Grade 5 and 8 classes will be holding a Purdy’s chocolate bar fundraiser after school in the days leading up to these two special events. The funds will be used to help cover the costs associated with the Grade 5 Celebration and Grade 8 Grad at the end of the school year as well as the Grade 8 mission trip at the end of March. Chocolate bars will be just $2 or $3 depending on the type/size and Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day chocolate bar wrappers will be available. More details to come!

The 2021-2022 Year Book

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

If you would like to order a yearbook, you may do so either by cheque or online at Hope Lutheran Christian School (please no cash). You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering your yearbook is April 1st, 2022. Your child was given a yearbook order form today. Please complete the form and return with a cheque or go to the online ordering link and follow the instructions to order your yearbook. Thank you for your support in ensuring we have yet another amazing yearbook to showcase our students’ memories at Hope this academic year!

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

Open House

We’ve learned from our admissions interviews that an overwhelming majority of our applicants come to our school because of word-of-mouth recommendations from our school community.  We are thankful that you, our parents, are our best advertisers.

Do you know of a family ready to explore education options for their child?  Do you have friends or family looking for a school that offers more than just an academic education, one that you can call home?  Invite them to attend our virtual open house on January 20th.

Please pick up an open house postcard in the office or forward this digital information sheet 2022 Virtual OpenHouse Postcard and encourage them to check out The Hope Difference.  Registration is online at hopelcs.ca/school

Parent Volunteering

A reminder for parents to be sure to track your participation hours on the spreadsheet sent by your Class Liaison in September.  The sheets will close on January 31st and hours tallied.

An ongoing list of volunteer opportunities can be found here:  2021-22 Volunteer Opportunities

At-Home Activity

Two or three parents are needed to help cut out paper hearts in preparation for our Intentional Acts of Kindness period in February.  Please email Lisa at [email protected] if you are interested in helping from home.  Paper will be provided.

Upcoming PTL Meeting

A reminder to all parents – our next PTL meeting is this Thursday evening at 7 pm over Zoom.  Connection details will be communicated to you this week.

At the meeting, the November meeting minutes will need to be approved.  Please review the November minutes in preparation for our upcoming meeting.  Highlights from the minutes include:

  • Update on the Hope for the Future Visioning Process
  • PTL Financial Statements and fundraising initiatives
  • Upcoming volunteer opportunities

If you have any questions, please contact the PTL at [email protected]  Attendance counts for one hour of parent participation time.

Community Relations

Submissions are open for the February newsletter.  Do you have an achievement or special event you’d like to share? How about a story of wonder or exploring God’s creation?  What about some kudos to inspire others or ideas for intentional acts of kindness?

Please send your submissions to Lisa Klym at [email protected].

New Community Group

Start your new year off well. Learn to trust in God’s goodness, rely on His grace and live for His glory each and every day. A new 15-day Bible reading plan – New Year, New Mercies – will start soon.   If you are interested in joining our small group, please email Lisa at [email protected] with your mobile number and you will receive an invitation to join our online reading plan.
