PE Field Trip

Both PE 6 and PE 7/8 will be going on a field trip to the Golden Ears Winter Club. PE 6 A & B will be going on Monday, December 9th from 12:15-2:30. PE 7 & 7/8 will be going on Thursday, December 12th from 12:!5-2:30. Students will need to bring clean indoor running shoes (change into these shoes when we arrive at the curling rink), loose fitting athletic pants (sweatpants, track pants, yoga pants, etc.) Do not wear jeans or tight pants. Shorts are not allowed. Students should wear loose fitting jackets over sweaters/long sleeve shirts so that you have layered clothing and you can adjust as needed. Students may choose to wear thin gloves (no bulky ski gloves) if they would like.  Students should arrive at school in their uniform, and change for curling at lunch.

Basketball Practices 

Boys Grade 6/7 basketball practice will start November 28, 3:00 – 4:30 pm @ PM Campus

Girls basketball practice will start December 2, 2:50 – 4:30 pm @ PM Campus

Family Ski Day – POSTPONED

Due to lack of snow the Family Ski Day is being postponed to February 28th.  This day is a student-led conference day; therefore, families who are going skiing should go for their conference on Feb 27.  All information submitted will be transferred to the new date. If you are no longer able to attend and require a refund, please email Mrs. Olding ([email protected]). If you are now able to attend and would like to be added to this event, there may be some spaces available. Please contact Mrs. Olding for more information.

Final Day of Classes before Christmas Break and Early Dismissal – Thursday, Dec. 19th

The school will start at the regular time. Middle school staff and students will enjoy a pancake breakfast together and then spend the remainder of the morning playing games, watching movies, etc. Students may wear their PJs that day. Please do not send any additional snacks or treats. We will be dismissing students at 11:30 am. The shuttle bus will leave at 11:45 am and arrive at the elementary campus at approximately 12:00 pm

PTL Coffee Fellowship – Friday, December 13th

Our next coffee fellowship is coming up this Friday.  Since we’re so close to Christmas, let’s get into the spirit – whether it’s festive, fashionable or ugly – wear your Christmas sweater.

Following our Coffee Fellowship, the PTL Executive will meet to discuss future events and fundraising.   Anyone interested in helping with these initiatives is welcome to participate in the discussion.

REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS:  Please remember to record your Parent Volunteer Hours as you complete them on your youngest child’s spreadsheet.  Term 1 ends on January 31st and after that date, the sheets will be closed. Please ensure you record any eligible hours prior to January 31st.

If you are short on hours, there are many opportunities, evenings included,  to help with the Bethlehem Walk production. Please refer to the links provided.  More opportunities will be posted shortly.

Volunteer Opportunities – 2019/2020 School Year

Baking:  The Bethlehem Walk production, Dec. 17 & 18, requires 80 dozen pieces of assorted cookies and squares per evening!  Please sign up at the following link and keep your baking in your freezer until the morning of the performance: Bethlehem Walk Refreshments

The Well:  Our food services club, The Well, is in need of one parent a week to assist in the clean up each Friday after the meal service.  If you are able to spare an hour over the lunch period, they would greatly appreciate your assistance. Lunchtime Supervision: We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the Pitt Meadows Campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day.  Orientation will be provided by Ms. Nast. Calling All People!

There are many roles to fill to help make Bethlehem Walk a successful outreach to our community.  This year we have received a generous grant from the City of Port Coquitlam’s Community Cultural Development Investment Program and our Mayor, Council and City Staff will be invited to attend.  Let’s make this year the best year ever!

Bethlehem Walk – Props Needed:

A number of props are necessary to enhance the various scenes presented in our Bethlehem Walk production.  The requested items are listed in the following link: Props Needed.  Please sign in the appropriate spot for the item you are able to lend to the production and please confirm its suitability with the teacher in charge before leaving at the school.  All items must be clearly labeled if it is to be returned.

In Other News…

Bethlehem Walk

Middle school students are performing in the chapel for the Bethlehem walk.  Students will be in formal uniform for the performances. Grades 6A, and 7A are performing on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and grades 6B and 7/8 are performing on Wednesday, Dec.18.  For both days, students meet at the PoCo campus at 6:15 in Rm 104. Here, students can drop off their coats and instrument cases, then move to the chapel, where they will remain for the whole evening.  Students need to have a parent or guardian sign out at the end of the evening. Please contact Ms. Allen if there are any questions.

Dress Down Days for LEST $2

We have scheduled three Dress Down Days at both campuses as a way to fundraise for our upcoming trip to Portland. Please note the following:

  • Friday, December 13  – Lumberjack Day (plaid shirts, jeans, suspenders, mustaches, toques, wooly socks, paper axes, etc.) – Points awarded to Spirit Teams 
  • Friday, January 17
  • Friday, February 7

The Well

The next hot lunch is on Friday, December 13th.  The Well will be serving Meatball subs with chips and carrots for $5.00. Orders are due back on Wednesday, December 11th. 

Hope Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith! 

The year 2019’s FINAL Junior Youth event is this Saturday, December 14 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Yearbook Orders 

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.

  • complete the form in this link – YEARBOOK ORDER FORM, make the cheque out to Hope Lutheran School and return both to the school
  • on the cheque subject line, please write your child’s name, their class,  and “Yearbook 2019/20”

Yearbooks will be delivered in June before students leave for the summer holidays.  Any 2019/20 yearbooks are not picked up by June 30, 2021, will be used for school purposes.
