Important Notice Re: 2021 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings

Although it feels like the school year has just begun, in the office we are already preparing for next September!

Each year we set aside spaces in our upcoming Kindergarten classes for potential incoming siblings. This information is determined by what a family has entered on the registration form of their older child, or added on the year’s Student Information Verification Form.

An email was sent out last Friday to the school families who we are aware have a child(ren) born in 2016, with information about the 2021 Sibling Enrolment process.

If your family has a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2021 (born in 2016), and you did not receive the email from our registrar Clare Wood, please contact Clare directly at [email protected], by no later than Friday, October 16.

Emergency Comfort Kits

A reminder for all new and all Kindergarten families to bring in to the school office an Emergency Comfort Kit.  For information of what to include in your child’s comfort kit please see the following link: EMERGENCY COMFORT KIT INFORMATION

Christmas Card Fundraiser

This year our school is partnering up with the Card Project to turn our students’ drawings into Christmas cards. Students attending on site will be working in their classes to complete a piece of art that will be turned into Christmas cards.  Our at-home students may also choose to participate, please wait for communication from your classroom teacher on what the expectations are and the deadline for submission.  Parents will then have the opportunity to purchase their child(ren)’s cards to use for their Christmas mailings, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the school to our fundraising fund.

Scholastic October Digi Flyers Now Available Online!

PI Academy Badminton

PI Academy Sports is delighted to once again offer their badminton program at Hope! To better cope with COVID, class size will be limited, and all those interested are urged to register early to avoid having their child miss this season. There will be a new waiver, to be delivered online, for the parents to acknowledge “before the first lesson”, and should you accept, this will also be valid for all badminton classes and related events to the end of the school year in June 2021.

PI Academy Sports wishes to thank all the parents and the staff at Hope for the great support of the badminton program, and to continue to allow your children to learn through purposeful play. Do take note of the specific class category for your child before registering.

The waiver will be sent out online to all participants’ parents soon after your registration – the waiver must be acknowledged before your first lesson. It is requested that all registrants make payment for their fees as early as possible, so that the focus can be on the students with COVID safety practices as soon as the lesson begins.

Payment options:

     > E-transfer (preferred):  [email protected]

     > Cash (in-person on your child’s first lesson)

Please see the following link for the Fall season 2020 registration: FALL SEASON BADMINTON REGISTRATION

Some information to take note of:

  1. No make-up classes. No switching classes at any time.
  2. January to June – Friday classes at middle school will be subjective to be replaced with a possible intramural tournament.
  3. Students will be reminded and when possible to keep at least a 2M distance from others during the lessons, and casual discussions.
  4. Students will be reminded to wash their hands frequently.

PTL Coffee Fellowship

We are resuming our PTL Coffee Fellowships – an opportunity for parents from both campuses to get together socially as well as having our Principal and Elementary Vice-Principal on hand to answer any questions parents may have.  Coffee Fellowships will typically be the second Thursday of each month at 9:00 am, meeting at the Port Coquitlam campus outside under the covered area at the front entrance.

Our first Coffee Fellowship is this Thursday, October 8th.  Hope to see you there!

Volunteering

Even though our opportunities to gather are limited, we can still find ways to connect through volunteering with other parents.  Available opportunities:

  1. Wednesdays, K-5:  We require parents from each grade K-5 to assist with their class supervision each Wednesday during the assigned running time.  A link to that sign-up is here:   Km Club Weds Course Supervision

Fundraising

The PTL is launching a new fundraising program and would like your help with this initiative.  Please consider donating your recycling funds to the Hope Lutheran School account by using the labelled bag provided to each family.   If you require additional labels, please contact the school office.  All deposits paid on beverage containers will be credited to our school account.

Once your clear recycling bag is full and the top has been tied closed, please drop it off at your nearest Express depot.  The bag contents will be sorted and counted by Return-It employees and the money credited to our school account.  Caps can be left on containers to ensure small plastic pieces are recycled.  Funds generated will pay for items directly benefiting students such as improved technology, sports equipment, special programming and access to unique opportunities.

If you are using your own bags for additional recycling, the Express system required customers use clear or transparent bags for containers.  The recommended size is approximately 36 inches tall, 30 inches wide and around 72 litres in capacity.  Please use a clear bag that ties completely closed and tag each bag with a Hope Lutheran School label.

There are Return-It Express depots located in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Langley and Surrey.  For a complete listing of Express depots, please visit the Return-It website at https://www.return-it.ca/locations/?St=&Sv=express.  Acceptable containers are listed at:  https://www.return-it.ca/beverage/recycling/onedeposit/

Not all Return-It Express depots are licensed to provide the full refund for aluminum alcohol containers.  The licensed facilities located near to our school families are listed below.  For a full listing, please visit https://www.return-it.ca/beverage/faqs/nosortingcans/

Community Relations

Community Newsletter

In case you missed it, here is the October newsletter:  THE HOPE HERALD – October Edition

Submissions are open for the November newsletter.  Do you have a personal achievement or special event you’d like to have recognized?

November 11 is Remembrance Day, an opportunity to pay respect to and honor our national heroes who have fought to keep our freedom.  Do you have a hero; someone special in your life who has made a profound difference; someone you honour and respect?  Write a tribute about them and we’ll feature it in our November edition.  Please email Lisa Klym with your submissions at [email protected]

Additionally, we’ll be starting a new column called “Caught in the Act…”  This will feature students who have been “caught” doing good – performing an act of service or kindness, collecting money for a charity, a community garbage cleanup, etc.  We want to encourage our children to realize the small things they can do to make a difference in their spheres of influence and show the love of God to the world around them.

Please include photos with your submissions and send to Lisa at [email protected]
