Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Special Showing of Screenagers:  Growing Up In The Digital Age

The PTL is hosting a special one-time showing of the documentary Screenagers on Saturday, November 16th from 9:30-11:30am at the Hollywood 3 Cinemas in Pitt Meadows.

Screenagers is an award-winning film that probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world.

All Parents and any students 10 years and older are invited to attend.  Please indicate your attendance in the following link: Interest in Screenagers  Please be sure to submit this form by October 30th so we can adequately plan.


Volunteer Opportunities – 2019/2020 School Year

  • PTL Secretary:  The PTL Executive needs a Secretary.  Requirements are to attend each PTL meeting, record discussion items and compile meeting minutes for distribution.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested in this position. 

 

  • Bethlehem Walk: A number of our scenes need repairing or updating.  A workday is planned for Saturday, October. 26th from 8:45-12:00 at the PoCo Campus.  Volunteer opportunities are available for those experienced in construction as well as people able to add paint color to pre-drawn set scenes.  If you are able to help out, please sign up on the following link: Bethlehem Walk Work Day

 

  • Parent/Teacher Conference Dinners: We would like to bless the staff by providing them dinner on Thursday, October 24 during the Parent/Teacher Conferences.  One more main course meal is still needed.  If you are able to help with providing food, please sign up at the following link:P/T Conference Dinner Thank you!

 

  • The Well:  Our middle school food services club, The Well, is in need of one parent a week to assist in the clean up each Friday after the meal service.  If you are able to spare an hour at the Pitt Meadows campus from 12-1pm, they would greatly appreciate your assistance.   • Baking:  Get a jump on your Christmas baking and earn some volunteer hours at the same time.  The Bethlehem Walk production, Dec. 17 & 18, requires 80 dozen pieces of assorted cookies and squares per evening!  Please sign up at the following link and keep your baking in your freezer until the afternoon of the performance: Bethlehem Walk Refreshments

 

  • Lunchtime Supervision:  We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the PoCo Campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day.  This extra support is needed so the kids can go over to McLean’s Park. International Potluck Dinner

Positive Parenting:  Learning simple phrases on how to talk to children so they will listen.

Date: November 12th from 6-8 pm, PoCo Campus Sanctuary

We are offering all elementary parents the special opportunity to participate in a Positive Parenting Workshop.

Learn important and effective parenting strategies that you can immediately apply to your unique family dynamic.  Understand proven parenting rules and how to communicate them calmly, clearly, and consistently.

Topics covered will be:

  • Challenging behaviours and tools to help to solve them;
  • Love and respect;
  • Sibling rivalry; and
  • Electronics and everyday challenges.

Important Notice Re: 2020 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings

This is a reminder that if your family has a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2020 (born in 2015), the 2020 Kindergarten sibling application form and back up documents must be submitted to the Port Coquitlam campus office by Friday, October 25th. If you have any questions, please contact Clare Wood directly at [email protected], prior to the October 25th deadline.


Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be taking place on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, October 24th       1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Friday, October 25th            9:00 am – 12:00 noon 

Elementary (K-5): Parent and Teacher, 15 minutes each.

A conference is required with the homeroom teacher of each student within a family. 

Middle School: Parent, Student and Teacher, 15 minutes each.

Grade 6 students –  a conference is required with the homeroom teacher, and optional with other subject-specific teachers.  

Math platoons will not be covered during these meeting times. Parents are welcome to contact their child’s math platoon teacher to arrange to meet at another time.

Grade 7/8 students – conferences will be with subject-specific teachers, and a minimum of 2 conferences are required. 

Additional conferences will be available with the Music, French, EAL, and PE teachers, where applicable.

2019 Parent-Teacher Conferences

The online booking calendar opened at 8:00 am on Monday, October 14th, and closes at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 23rd. Each family will need to create a login account in order to use the system. Phone bookings will not be taken. 


Grade 4 Foundational Skills Assessment Test

The BC Ministry of Education’s Foundational Skills Assessment (FSA) will continue this week. Please try and avoid scheduling appointments during this week and make sure your grade four child gets good rest each evening. 


Cross Country

Our race is this Wednesday at Bear Creek Park in Surrey leaving school at 8:45 and returning before 3:00. Please prepare your runner with PE gym strip and bring extra layers and socks to stay warm and dry. We need parent helpers to set up and supervise our special afterschool race today. 


Hope Lutheran Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith! 

Our next event is this Saturday, October 26th from 6:30-8:30pm.

Our Hot Lunch program is looking for motivated parents to help distribute Hot Lunch from Food Bins delivered by The Lunch Lady, on November 1. Once food has been distributed to the children and checked, please feel free to visit other classrooms that may need your help. We appreciate your time! Please note: classes K-3 need our help the most!

Yearbook Orders

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.

Cheque:

  2. on the cheque subject line, please write your child’s name, their class,  and “Yearbook 2019/20”
