Date Change to Next PTL General Meeting

Please mark your calendars – November’s PTL meeting is changed from Nov. 1st to Nov. 15th.  The meeting will be hosted at the Port Coquitlam campus followed by a PTL Coffee Fellowship. 

Volunteer Opportunities – 2019/2020 School Year

  • PTL Secretary:  The PTL Executive needs a Secretary.  Requirements are to attend each PTL meeting, record discussion items and compile meeting minutes for distribution.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested in this position. 
  • Bethlehem Walk: A number of our scenes need repairing or updating.  A workday is planned for Saturday, October. 26th from 8:45-12:00 at the PoCo Campus.  Volunteer opportunities are available for those experienced in construction as well as people able to add paint color to pre-drawn set scenes.  If you are able to help out, please sign up on the following link: Bethlehem Walk Work Day

Positive Parenting:  Learning simple phrases on how to talk to children so they will listen.

Date: November 12th from 6-8 pm, PoCo Campus Sanctuary

Instructor: Marzena Radzimowski

We are offering all elementary parents the special opportunity to participate in a Positive Parenting Workshop.

Learn important and effective parenting strategies that you can immediately apply to your unique family dynamic.  Understand proven parenting rules and how to communicate them calmly, clearly, and consistently.

Topics covered will be:

  • Challenging behaviours and tools to help to solve them;
  • Love and respect;
  • Sibling rivalry; and
  • Electronics and everyday challenges.

Photo Orders Due

Individual student photo orders were handed out to students last week and are due Thursday, October 17.  If families are not ordering online, order envelopes can be brought to your child’s teacher with payment.  Payment accepted: cheque or credit card information, NO CASH.

Important Notice Re: 2020 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings

This is a reminder that if your family has a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2020 (born in 2015), the 2020 Kindergarten sibling application form and back up documents must be submitted to the Port Coquitlam campus office by Friday, October 25th. If you have any questions, please contact Clare Wood directly at [email protected], prior to the October 25th deadline.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be taking place on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, October 24th       1:00 pm – 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Friday, October 25th            9:00 am – 12:00 noon 

Elementary (K-5): Parent and Teacher, 15 minutes each.

A conference is required with the homeroom teacher of each student within a family. 

Middle School: Parent, Student and Teacher, 15 minutes each.

Grade 6 students –  a conference is required with the homeroom teacher, and optional with other subject-specific teachers.  

Math platoons will not be covered during these meeting times. Parents are welcome to contact their child’s math platoon teacher to arrange to meet at another time.

Grade 7/8 students – conferences will be with subject-specific teachers, and a minimum of 2 conferences are required. 

Additional conferences will be available with the Music, French, EAL, and PE teachers, where applicable.

2019 Parent Teacher Conferences

The online booking calendar opened at 8:00 am on Monday, October 14th, and closes at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 23rd. Each family will need to create a login account in order to use the system. Phone bookings will not be taken. 

Scholastic Orders

The newest flyer has been sent home. Orders are due today, Tuesday, October 15. If you order online using your credit card, you do not need to submit anything to the school. Please select Mrs. Evelyn Kang as the classroom teacher. If you are writing a cheque, please make it out to Scholastic Canada, and ensure that you are using the blue (BC column) to calculate the amount, The cheque and order sheets need to be handed into the classroom teacher by October 15. Grade 4 Foundational Skills Assessment Test

The BC Ministry of Education’s Foundational Skills Assessment (FSA) test will take place between October 15 to October 22. Please try and avoid scheduling appointments during this week and make sure your grade four child gets good rest each evening

Cross Country

Our grade 4 and 5 cross country team practices on Tuesdays from 12:00 to 12:25 pm. Cross country team members must also be participating in the school Km club. Our race is October 23 at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. We need parent helpers to set up and supervise our runs on Tuesdays and for our special afterschool race on Monday, October 21. Hope Lutheran Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith! 

This weekend, Junior Youth is at Camp Luther for their Pulse Retreat! To inquire about last-minute registrations, please contact the Camp Luther office directly or visit www.campluther.ca

Our Hot Lunch program is looking for motivated parents to help distribute Hot Lunch from Food Bins delivered by The Lunch Lady, on October 18. Once food has been distributed to the children and checked, please feel free to visit other classrooms that may need your help. We appreciate your time! Please note: classes K-3 need our help the most!

Yearbook Orders

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.
