Remembrance Day Event & Poppies

This year, due to COVID, we will not be holding a Remembrance Day Assembly together in the chapel.  Instead, classes will be sharing a powerpoint presentation that follows the same program structure as our previous assemblies.  Classes will show this presentation on Tuesday, November 10, and students will be given poppies that day, as well, to take home.  Poppies have been supplied to the Port Coquitlam campus from Royal Canadian Legion #133.  A suggested donation of $1 will be collected in each classroom on Tuesday, November 10.  Extra poppies are also available, by donation, at the Port Coquitlam school office.

Christmas Concert/December Calendar Change

We have adjusted our typical Christmas Concert plans to accommodate the COVID situation and ensure our community’s health and safety.  Our students will be recorded performing musical pieces and a video will be sent out to our school families to enjoy over their holidays.  With this format our calendar has also been adjusted as follows:

Monday, December 14 – Thursday, December 17 = Full Day of School

Friday, December 18 = NO SCHOOL (Christmas break begins)

Hope Lutheran Junior Youth

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for students in grades 5-8, connecting students with Jesus and one another.

Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Our November PTL meeting took place last Thursday, November 5.  The minutes from that meeting are here:  PTL November 5 Mtg Minutes

Artificial Christmas Trees Needed

We’d like to bring some fun, Christmas cheer to our students and have each grade decorate and display a tree at their campus.  Do you have an artificial tree standing 4-6 feet tall that we could borrow starting December 7th?   Please respond by this Friday, November 13, emailing the PTL at [email protected] if you are able to lend us a tree.  We are looking to obtain a maximum of 9 trees.

Parent Prayer

Parent Prayer has moved!  Start your week in community with others. Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us in prayer for our school.

We will be meeting underneath the tents at the Port Coquitlam Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

Opportunity for Service

This year, opportunities for us to serve others are limited but, as a member of Hope’s community, you can still make a difference in the life of deserving families in the Tri-Cities.

Our annual Christmas food drive is starting soon.  We encourage families to support this initiative that will benefit others who are struggling this season.

If you have a recommendation for a family to receive a hamper, please send Mr. Lok a short description of why you are recommending them and their contact details.  ([email protected])

  1. Parents should have received an email from their class liaison with a link to a Sign Up Genius sheet listing the items necessary to be fulfilled.  In an effort to avoid duplication of items, the items are specific to each class.  For example: Kindergarten to bring listed breakfast items, Grade 1 to bring listed personal items, and so on. (This way, we don’t end up with multiples of the same item).
  2. Starting on Monday, November 16, Christmas wrapped collection boxes will be placed in each classroom for Kindergarten through Grade 8.
  3. Donations will be collected for 2 weeks – Monday, November 16 until Monday, November 30.
  4. Donations of cash & gift cards can be taken to the school office for safekeeping.
  5. Contributions are voluntary.
  6. For health and safety reasons please ensure all donated items are new and unwrapped. (If food item, please ensure it is not past expiry date).

Thank you for your help & support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Gemma Hooper at [email protected].
