Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Km Club

Km Fall Club award tokens have been distributed.  Thank you everyone who participated.

We ran 8 days and had 5 rainout days.  Due to the large number of rainout days experienced, the award level was reduced to 5 Km per token.  Special recognition goes to Matthew R. (5B) for running the greatest distance at 47.5 Km. A very close second goes to Arjun M. (4B) for running 44.5 Km.

Great job everyone.  We look forward to seeing you out on the field for our Spring club.

PTL Meeting Minutes

Please access the following link for the minutes from the November 15 PTL Meeting.

Parent Volunteer Hours

REMINDER TO ALL PARENTS: Please remember to record your Parent Volunteer Hours as you complete them on your youngest child’s spreadsheet.  Term 1 ends on January 31 and after that date, the sheets will be closed. Please ensure you record any eligible hours prior to January 31, 2020.

If you are short on hours, there are many opportunities, evenings included,  to help with the Bethlehem Walk production. Please refer to the links provided.

Volunteer Opportunities – 2019/2020 School Year

1. Bethlehem Walk Fundraising:  Our Bethlehem Walk Christmas production is almost entirely funded by Hope Lutheran Church and School, with generous volunteer support from our church membership and school parent community.  In an effort to offset production costs, a bake sale will take place starting at 2:15 pm at the Port Coquitlam Campus on Friday, December 6Come early to get the best selection!  This is a great way for you to purchase a plate of assorted Christmas baking for holiday celebrations.  For those of you missing Fun Food, here’s your opportunity to enjoy some treats! Your time and your baked goods count towards volunteer hours.

We particularly need volunteers at 1:45 pm to set up and sell.

To contribute items to the bake sale or to help facilitate the sale, please sign up at the following link:Bethlehem Walk Bake Sale

2. The Well:  Our middle school food services club, The Well, is in need of one parent a week to assist in the clean up each Friday after the meal service.  If you are able to spare an hour at the Pitt Meadows campus from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, they would greatly appreciate your assistance. Please sign up at the following link:  The Well food services cleanup

3. Baking:  Get a jump on your Christmas baking and earn some volunteer hours at the same time.  The Bethlehem Walk production, December 17 & 18, requires 80 dozen pieces of assorted cookies and squares per evening!  Please sign up at the following link and keep your baking in your freezer until the afternoon of the performance: Bethlehem Walk Refreshments

4. PTL Secretary:  The PTL Executive needs a Secretary.  Requirements are to attend each PTL meeting, record discussion items and compile meeting minutes for distribution.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested in this position.

 5. Lunchtime Supervision:  We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the Port Coquitlam Campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day.  This extra support is needed so the kids can go over to McLean’s Park. Orientation will be provided by Mrs. Watson. Thank you so much for giving your time in this area! You can sign up at the following link:  Port Coquitlam Lunch Supervision

A number of props are necessary to enhance the various scenes presented in our Bethlehem Walk production.  The requested items are listed in the following link: Props Needed.  Please sign in the appropriate spot for the item you are able to lend to the production and please confirm its suitability with the teacher in charge before leaving at the school.  All items must be clearly labelled if it is to be returned.

Advent Devotional Booklets Available – Free

The Christmas season is almost upon us and what better way to start your celebration and anticipation than to celebrate the season of Advent. This is a wonderful way to gather as a family each day, contemplate together the meaning of Christmas and celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Complimentary Advent devotional booklets are available in both offices for each family. Advent begins December 1 so be sure to pick up your devotional this week.

Uniform Policy Update

Watches:  Students are permitted to wear watches that are only used for telling time.  Watches with other features (e.g. games, cameras, step counters, etc.) are not permitted.  Unfortunately, while these can be useful tools, they also cause distraction to the learning environment.

Bethlehem Walk

Students will be taking home a green slip of paper on Tuesday – November 26, that tells you their role, night and shift times for our Bethlehem Walk performance.  More information about costuming and meeting locations will be communicated at a later date.

Hope Lutheran Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith!

Due to another Hope Church event, there is no Junior Youth this weekend.

To join our email list, please email Mrs. Stephanie Mayer ([email protected]).

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Book orders are due back to classroom teachers Tuesday, November 26. Due to the timeline for Christmas we will not be accepting late orders.  Please remember to circle the Blue column for pricing (BC with tax) and indicate the number of books and the total amounts. You may pay with cheques made out to Scholastic Canada or pay online with credit card (Evelyn Kang – as the teacher). If you are purchasing items for Christmas gifts and wish to keep it a secret, please indicate on your order form Christmas Gifts and the classroom teachers will deliver the purchase to the parents directly. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Kang at [email protected]

SOFund Gift Cards – Gift Card Order #2

The order form for our second order for gift cards was sent home last week.  The deadline to return the order forms with payment is this Wednesday, November 27.  You will receive these cards in time for the Christmas holidays. Thank you again for supporting our Student Opportunity Fund.

There are still a few families that have yet to pick up their orders from the first order. Please stop by the school office to pick up your gift cards.

Mt. Seymour Family Ski Day (Gr. 2-8)

It is that time of year when we begin planning our Grade 2-8 Family Ski Day, which will take place on the first day of Christmas Break, Friday, December 20.

Please find the school information form here. There is also a Mt. Seymour form that must be picked up from either school office. Completed forms and cheques are due back in the office this Friday, November 29. Please contact Mrs. Olding ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

Note: If you have a child in Kindergarten or Grade 1 who would like to attend, you must contact Mt. Seymour yourself to inquire about private lessons or have them ski with you for the day, as Seymour cannot accommodate these ages in the school ski program.

Yearbook Orders

Once again, we are excited to partner with Jostens in developing a yearbook that will display special moments for all of us, including individual photos of our school family, as well as candid shots and amazing collages!

You may order your yearbook for $25. The deadline for ordering yearbooks is January 31, 2020.

Two ways to order:

  1. Cheque:
  • – Pick up an order form from the office, complete it, make a cheque out to Hope Lutheran School and return both to the school
  • – on the cheque subject line, please write your child’s name, their class,  and “Yearbook 2019/20”

2. Online:

Yearbooks will be delivered in June, before students leave for summer holidays.  Any 2019/20 yearbooks not picked up by June 30, 2021 will be used for school purposes.

If you have any other questions, please contact Mrs. Paul ([email protected]).
