Pick-up and Drop-off

Thank-you for the care and attention you have in keeping our students and community here at Hope safe.  Pick-up and Drop-off times are quite hectic and we appreciate that you have a lot going on. As the weather continues to improve we anticipate more families staying and enjoying time at the park and even walking/biking to and from school.  Please continue to exercise caution when driving on the street (watching for our crossing students and families and respecting the speed and parking rules), and entering and exiting our parking lot (following flow, parking, and picking up students). We are also incredibly thankful for cell phones being put away as you are driving and when meeting up with your children.  It is such a blessing for our students to know that they are valued with your time and attention.

Beauty And The Beast:

What an Amazing Evening!

Thank you again to all our staff, students, parents, volunteers and door-prize donors who worked so hard to make this evening a wow! Everything from the dinner to the decor, to the cookies, to the special music and of course the production from our students was very special. Donors stepped up with an initial amount of $28.5K to match every dollar our community could raise from the evening. As a result, many families gave generously toward our school facilities initiative and the donations continue coming in.

If you were unable to attend the gala or would still like the opportunity to contribute to our school facilities fund, our students will be bringing home gift envelopes today. Donations can be brought to either campus and can be made by cash/cheque or credit card. We will sending a Mailchimp in the coming days to update on the facilities initiative and our progress toward the initial $70K goal.

Here’s a one minute highlight video from the evening:

Thank you from Directors & Cast Party

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU parents, students… everyone!  Thank you students for all your hard work in learning your lines, songs, and dances. Thank you parents for driving your children to and from rehearsals, bringing them food, helping them with their lines and costumes and makeup, helping supervise children, and bring teachers food and drinks when needed! Thank you to parent volunteers for all your help with costumes, make up, props, and staging. The show would not be a success without all of us working together as we did.

We are having a cast party this Wednesday at lunch time in the chapel and music room.  We would love to see all of you there!

Beauty and the Beast Cast

There is one Beauty & the Beast t-shirt available for $10 each if any of the musical cast is interested.

Size available:  youth (L)

Please email Tina Goetz if you are interested, [email protected].

Km Club

Km Club has finished and we enjoyed some great days of running.  A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up to make this a success – we couldn’t have done it without you.  The final results have been posted and awards will be handed out at our year-end assembly.

Triathlon Results

Triathlon results are in and they are posted outside the chapel.  Congratulations to all our team and individual athletes and thanks to all the parents who helped on that day.

Staff Appreciation

Thank you to those parents who contributed their time and food items towards the Staff Appreciation Lunch.  The luncheon was lovely and the staff felt appreciated and refreshed.

Parents in Prayer

For the school year a parent from the Port Coquitlam campus has organized a once a month prayer time for parents/family members of Hope Lutheran Christian School.

We meet the first Tuesday of each month from 8:55 – 9:30 am and pray for our children, our families, the Staff and Teachers at Hope and our Community of Port Coquitlam. We will share and learn from one another, be inspired by Bible readings on prayer and of course – we will pray together! Email Tina Goetz for more info: [email protected]

Location: Please meet in the Narthex/Foyer of the Port Coquitlam Campus at 8:55 am on Tuesday, May 7.

The last date for the school year will be: June 4

Gr. 5 Ultimate Frisbee

With the sunny spring season comes the start of our Ultimate Frisbee season. We are planning for our first grade five ultimate team. The first practice is tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7. Ultimate is a co-ed (both boys & girls) sport and is the fastest growing school sport in North America. Our tournament is at Pacific Academy on Tuesday, June 4.

Track and Field

Track and Field season is underway. There are practices for all grade 4 & 5 students on Mondays from 9:00 – 10:00 am; Wednesdays from 10:45 am – 12:00 pm; and Fridays from 1:45 – 2:45 pm. Students should dress for the weather (extra socks if it’s wet; hats if it’s sunny). Parent volunteers are needed – no experience is required.  Some of the volunteer responsibilities could include recording times or distances and helping monitor student behaviour. Please contact Mrs. Olding with any questions or concerns ([email protected])

All grade 4 & 5 students will participate in an in-school track meet at Percy Perry Stadium on May 16. Selected students will attend an inter-school Christian Elementary School Sports (CESS) track meet at Swangard Stadium (in Burnaby) on May 28.

Track & Field NEW INFO:

Permission slips for both track meets were sent home last week and are due back this Wednesday, May 8..  If you can help at either meet, please note your availability in the comment section of the permission form.  For the event at Percy Perry Stadium on May 16, we will need at least 8 parents to operate stopwatches for the running events, plus some parents to provide support for field events (e.g. raking the sand at long jump).  At Swangard, Mrs. Olding will need help at the ball throw station (measuring and recording distances of throws), we will need help supervising in the stands, and we need to supervise the bathroom area for 1 hour during the event.  We truly appreciate your support in making these events a success for our students.

Used Book Sale

The Grade 2 classes will be hosting a used book sale in our school gym after school on Friday, May 17.  We will be raising money to support our chapel offerings in purchasing desks and chairs for needy students in Nicaragua.  We invite you to come out and support our grade 2 students by stopping by and purchasing some books. The students will be busy until that date, sorting, pricing, and practicing how to collect and give change.
