Student Safety Reminders

Bus Drop Off Area:  Now that the middle school has moved, the bus has returned to its spot on the street in front of our playground.   This means that we can no longer have cars stopping to drop off their students at that location (not enough space).  Parents will need to park (at MacLean park or on the street, where permitted) and have students walk to the school following the road safety rules.

Recess/Lunch at the Park:  Parents wishing to drop off items or lunch are expected to do so at the school office.  If you are wanting to talk with your child at the park briefly – you will need to stop by the office first so that supervisors on the field can be radioed to be aware of this.  Any adult interacting with our students needs to be in a safety vest so we are aware of who is interacting with our students and ensure their safety at this public park.

Important Library Dates

May 31: All overdue books must be returned or replaced by this date

June 6: All library books due

June 6-10: The Great Classroom Book-hunt: Parent volunteers are needed to search the classroom libraries for missing books. Contact Ms. Francescini ([email protected]) to volunteer.

June 13-17: Library closed for inventory

Sports Day – Thank You!

A big thank you to the many parents who came out to help during Sports Day! Everyone seemed to have so much fun and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, congratulations on the tug-of-war match against the teachers – the teachers can’t wait for a re-match next year!

Father Daughter Dance – Thank You!

The Father Daughter Dance on Friday was a big success. Children were happy, fathers were tired and our hearts were full. We would like to extend our thanks to the following people:

  • Igor Z. and his son Matthew for coming to DJ for the evening. As always, they did an exemplary job and we are so thankful for their willingness to help.
  • Heidi L. for creating an amazing balloon arch to complete our decoration. It was a big hit and she did an amazing job!
  • Parents who came to set up, and moms who worked the kitchen and served food/drink/dessert throughout the evening. One of our Middle school students even came and helped with serving drinks!
  • Steven S. for the amazing photo booth. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed it!
  • Parents who donated the appetizers. We never ran out of food!
  • Parents who stayed behind to help with the clean-up. We absolutely appreciated the help. You are all amazing and we are humbled.
  • Lastly, we want to thank all the fathers who donned their best outfits, came and danced their hearts out for their little girls for extra raffle tickets for our prizes.

We could not make this happen without our amazing and generous community. We cannot wait for the Father Daughter Dance next year. If you have any suggestions, or feedback, please feel free to contact the organizers (Diana Kurniawan & Sharon Ho).

If you were at the dance and would like your photo booth picture(s) sent to you, please contact Mrs. Klassen and she will try to send them to you via email.

Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Thank you, Parents!  May 27 was a busy day at our Elementary Campus.  Our K-5 Sports Day was a tremendous success and it could not have happened without the input of all the parents who were involved.  Also, our Father Daughter dance that evening was very entertaining for our elementary girls enjoying an evening out with their dads – thanks to all the moms working behind the scenes to make this event memorable for our girls.

The PTL is always looking for ways to improve their offerings.  If any of the dads who attended the dance have suggestions to make the event more enjoyable and/or interactive, please let us know.  We’re interested to hear what you thought of your experience.

Coming Up

Middle School Mixer – Help Needed

Our Middle School Mixer social event is coming up on Friday, June 10.  Doors open 6:30 pm, fun starts at 7:00 pm.  To keep our costs down, we are hoping some parents can contribute towards the snack food items.  If you are short on participation hours, here’s your chance to contribute and receive some hours for your purchases. Please view this signup for requested items:  Middle School Mixer Food Donations

Additionally, 12 parents are needed to help run the games stations.  If you are interested in assisting with our evening, please email the PTL at [email protected].  All time spent at the event will count towards your PP hours.

Participation Opportunities

Opportunities are available for the next school year.  Please browse the list of ongoing opportunities and let us know where you’d like to serve next year.  Some opportunities are guaranteed hours…

FOR ALL PARENTS:  The Term 2 Participation recording sheets will close June 15.  Please ensure you have recorded all your participation hours prior to June 15.  After this date, the sheets will be locked and hours calculated.  If you have completed a minimum of 15 hours, there is no cost to you.  Completion of partial hours will receive a reimbursement cheque.

Used Uniform Sale

A used uniform sale is happening June 13 & 14 at 2:30 pm in our Elementary campus parking lot.  This is a great opportunity to pass on those outgrown uniform pieces.  Parents, take the opportunity to go through your uniform pieces and identify what you can sell to other families.

Individuals are responsible for the sale and cleanup of their own items.  Please email the PTL if you would like to have a table.

Recycling Fundraiser

Thank you to all families who support us in our ongoing recycling fundraiser.  Additional labels are available at each campus office.  Please note, ReturnIt BC has implemented a new drop-off verification scan at select locations, which affects the return of some of our bags.  If you return to any of the following locations, please scan the bag before placing it in the drop-off area:

  • Return-It Express Yaletown
  • LoLo Return-It Express Plus
  • Coquitlam Return-It Depot
  • North Vancouver Bottle and Return-It Depot
  • PoCo Return-It
  • Go Green Bottle Depot and Recycling
  • Vancouver Central Return-It Depot
  • Semiahmoo Bottle Depot
  • Chilliwack Bottle Depot
  • Sardis Bottle Depot

A parent is required to label the bags for distribution at the start of next school year.  If this is a project you would like to complete over the summer, please let the PTL know.  Your time will count towards your Term 1 PP hours for 2022/23.
