Whole School Waterslide Field Trip  – Parent Registration

Registration for parents to attend the June 7 all school waterslide field trip will close TODAY at 4:15 pm.

Please see the registration link in an email sent May 5.

Payment for the registration ($7/adult) is due to be received at either school office by Friday, May 26.  IF payment is not received by this time, the registration is forfeit and will be deleted.  

Please refer to the May 5 email and the registration form for full details. Parents may get volunteer hours for driving their own child(ren), provided they take other students as well.  Also note, this field trip is for HLCS students only, younger/older siblings are not permitted to join us for this field trip.


Class Photos

Tomorrow, May 24 Hope’s photograph provider, Mountain West Studios, will be on site taking class photos.  Formal uniform is required for that day.

  • Choice of tunic, skort or kilt (modesty shorts to be worn under tunic and kilt)
  • Black knee socks or black tights (must have feet – no leggings)
  • Solid black shoes (no coloured logos or markings)

BOYS:

Sports Day 

Sports Day will be taking place on May 26th at McLean Park! You should have received information from your child’s classroom teacher indicating what colour (red, blue, green or yellow) they will need to wear on that day. These colours will divide classes into 4 teams and help when they participate in different activities throughout the day. On May 26th, make sure to send sunscreen and extra water for your child – looking forward to a fun day!

Jump Rope for Heart

Our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart this year. Students will be participating in this event during the week of May 29th – June 1st during their PE classes. This event is intended to be fun, encourage fitness and raise awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Hope Lutheran Church – Vacation Bible Camp

Registration will open for Hope Lutheran Church’s Vacation Bible Camp in the Monday Note NEXT WEEK, May 29th. Spots are limited for the free morning Vacation Bible Camp as well as the afternoon optional camps which are available to Vacation Bible Camp attendees for a fee. 

Parents who are wishing to volunteer for the morning Vacation Bible Camp may now contact Michele Malmberg at mmalmberg@hopelcs.ca for more information. 


Library End-of-Year Dates

The due dates for the school library have been moved up.

May 29th – Overdue books must be resolved

June 5th – All non-AR books are due back

June 12th – All books are due back


Notice from the School Accounting Office

A reminder for school families that chose the selection of the full payment option for tuition payment during February’s re-enrolment time, cheques will be processed next week, June 1, 2023.  

Please ensure appropriate funds are available.


Hot Lunch Update

NEW INFORMATION: Due to the increased volume of emails we can no longer assist in cancelling your orders for you.

ALL ORDERS can only be changed or cancelled 1 week prior to the scheduled hot lunches which are every Friday by midnight.

If your child will not be at school during hot lunch day please contact the school to make arrangements for lunch pickups.

Schola Bohemia – 2 Day Workshop – June 2023

The Before & After School Care program, Schola Bohemia, has a few spaces left for students to attend their “2-Day Workshop” taking place on June 22-23; 8:00 am – 5:30 pm.  The cost is $100 for students to attend the two 2 days.  Registration can be made by emailing Rita Langrova.


Elementary Recess Supervisor Needed

The school has an opening on the Elementary Campus Recess Supervision team.  This opening is for Wednesdays and the hours are 10:15 am-1:00 pm. We are also looking for individuals to cover shifts in the event regularly scheduled supervisors are unable to come in, an “On Call” position. A Criminal Record Clearance (CRC) will be required and first aid training is preferred but not required.  Please submit your resume to Jennifer Watson at jwatson@hopelcs.ca.


Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community. 

We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance. 

Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).


CommUNITY Relations

Newsletter

Submissions are open for the June newsletter.  If you have an achievement to celebrate or a story to share, please let us know.  What about a story of CommUNITY or how God has been at work in your life?  Submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.


Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

The PTL Bylaws have been brought up to date.  Parents are asked to review the draft bylaws in preparation for voting to adopt the updated bylaws at our June 8th meeting. 

REMINDER to all parents – please ensure all your participation hours are recorded to the class sheet for your youngest child.  The cutoff date for entering your time is June 15th.  After this date, the sheets will be locked and reimbursements calculated.

 

Participation Opportunities

There are a couple of needs within our library that our Librarian would appreciate receiving some help with before the end of school.  

Additionally, a parent is needed to brand water bottles in advance of our participation at the BC Dumpling Festival.  This is an at-home activity to be completed by the end of June.  Contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca for details.

Parents, if you are interested in assisting with representing our school at the Dumpling Festival at Town Centre Park from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th, please contact John Lok at jlok@hopelcs.ca.  Various shift times will be available.

Middle School Mixer Event – June 9th

Grades 5-8 parents – save the date for the Middle School Mixer on Friday, June 9th at the Elementary Campus.  This event is for any incoming Hope Grade 6 students and our existing grade 6-8 students, allowing our incoming 6’s to get to know their new peers and providing an opportunity for all MS students to socialize and have fun before the end of school.  

Please ensure students respond using this attendance form and have payment into the office by May 26.

 

Year-end Celebration

Please reserve the afternoon of June 21st for a year-end BBQ and activity time in McLean Park.  A pre-order form with your choice of a hot dog or a hamburger will be circulated in the coming weeks.

Parents looking for final participation hours – you are encouraged to help set up and cook.  Please contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca if you are able to assist from 9:00 am onwards on Wednesday, June 21st.
