Anniversary Musical – Cast Information

It’s Recording Week!

Cast Members will be spending the day Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (May, 10, 12, and 13) at the Port Coquitlam campus. They should bring any school packages from their teachers, a book, as well as their lunches with them. They will be expected to work quietly in between filming. Monday’s rehearsal will take place from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, or until finished. Wednesday and Thursday, the recording will be happening from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. All students should come in make-up and costumes for these days.

Attention all classes! – Each class will be performing a song in our production which will be rehearsed and filmed on May 10, May 12, and May 13. Recording will run from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Classrooms will be recording their scenes from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. We are asking each student to wear a pair of jeans and a solid coloured t-shirt for all of these performances. They can be brought to school and changed into for the performance. Small logos on t-shirts are acceptable, but not large ones. Students are also asked to wear their solid coloured Hope mask or another solid coloured mask.

Hope for the Sun (Son)!

God calls us to care for creation, and sunflowers feed the bees, so this summer Hope Lutheran Church is hosting a friendly sunflower-growing competition!  Plant your seed on Sunday, May 16, then take a photo of it and a measurement of it on Thanksgiving Sunday, October 11. (There may be some judges that go out to take those measurements…) If you would like only 1-3 seeds, there are some packages of seeds at the school/church office and you can pick up individual seeds there (between now and Friday, May 14).

Click here to register for the competition.  Mr. Lok, Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Klassen, and Mrs. Malmberg have already signed up!

Here comes the sun! Here come the sunflowers!!

Spring Music Concert Information

Like we did at Christmas time, we will be recording our classes perform music pieces that showcase their learning over the school year.  We will compile these clips into a video to share with our parent community in early June.

Musical Update

We are excited to inform you of the showing date of our 25th Anniversary Musical.  It will be shown in a Drive-In Movie style in the Riverside Community Church parking lot on Saturday, June 19.  This will be a wonderful way to end the school year.

A large LED screen will be constructed so that the audience can enjoy the show with the people in their own “bubble” inside their vehicle.  There will be a limit of 50 vehicles per show but there will be multiple showings on that day.  Mark your calendars and stay tuned for ticket sale information coming soon which will be on a first come first serve basis for each show.

Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Sports Day

Our Elementary Campus is having a fun sports day for our kids in grades K-5 but we need you to help!

Elementary Sports Days will take place by cohort from Monday, June 7 to Wednesday June 9.  A dedicated group of parents is needed to help plan and carry out the activities as well as parents needed to help set up, sanitize at lunch time and clean up.  Mr. Mayer and Mrs. Watson are available to offer ideas and ensure COVID safety.  Please let the PTL know you can help plan activities – [email protected] – and let’s end off this year strong!

Help is needed on each day for set up, sanitization and clean up:  Sports Day Assistance

PTL Meeting Minutes

A PTL meeting was recently held and the minutes of that meeting are included here:  PTL Meeting Minutes, May 6, 2021

Musical Production Assistance

Parents – we need you!  There are still some gaps to be filled to enable the filming to run smoothly.

Assistance is required during the recording sessions on May 10, 12 and 13.  Each day, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, is divided into three shifts.  Simple duties may include handing out props, sanitizing, being available to press a button for a spot light, etc.  Nothing elaborate, we just need people.  Please sign up at this link for one or more shifts:  Musical Production Assistance

25 for the 25th!  HLCS BOOK DRIVE

Please support our libraries!

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary a book drive is ongoing to directly benefit our school libraries at both campuses.  Our goal:  25 books for each grade!

Have you had a birthday recently that you’d like to donate a book in honor of your birthday?  We have a special sticker for that too!  Wouldn’t it be cool if your donated book had a 25th anniversary sticker and a birthday sticker attached to it?

Parents – here’s your chance to declutter and clean off your child’s bookshelf.  We’re accepting gently used books as well.

Please view our “Wish List” with tabs based on grade level: HLCS Book Drive

If you wish to make a monetary donation instead to fund the purchase of books, donations can be dropped off at either campus office (please mark your donation “Book Drive”).

Any questions can be directed to Lisa at [email protected]

Parent Prayer

Start your week in community with others. Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us in prayer for our school.

We will be meeting underneath the tents at the Port Coquitlam Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

Newsletter Submissions

Submissions are open for the June newsletter.  Looking back, what are some of your highlights?  How have you seen God working in the life of your family?

Do you have a testimonial about our school you’d like to share, perhaps a word of encouragement you’d like to express to the staff and/or our school community as we close out our 2021 school year?

Please send your stories and testimonials to Lisa Klym at [email protected].
