Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

The PTL Executive would like to thank all the parents who have volunteered their time this past year to help with the various initiatives that are benefitting our students.  A lot of work is done – visibly and behind-the-scenes – to help make our school the great community that it is and we appreciate your efforts. Each time you volunteer, you are making a difference in the life of a child.

We wish you a restful and enjoyable summer break and look forward to partnering with you again in the fall.

Parent Volunteers Hours Reminder

The deadline to record Parent Volunteer Hours has passed.  Families who completed the full required hours, your cheques will be shredded.  Families who completed partial hours or those who were unable to volunteer, your cheques will be deposited this week.  Families who completed partial hours will receive a refund cheque by mail. Used Uniform Sale  

Parents can buy/sell/trade Grades K-5 uniform items June 19 to 21 after school at the Port Coquitlam campus.  Parents are responsible to sell their own items and set-up/take down tables.

Summer Book Club

A book club is proposed to run for 4 weeks in July.  The study book will be “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire – What Happens When God’s Spirit Invades the Hearts of His People”, by Jim Cymbala ($18 at indigo.ca).  We will meet one morning a week in July at McLean Park from 9:30 -11:30 am.  Children can play while adults discuss the book. A day will be chosen that is suitable for everyone.  Please let Lisa Klym know your interest by email at [email protected].

Participants are to purchase their own book.

Committee Co-ordinators

There are opportunities to job shadow the current Co-ordinators for these committees and to be trained to take over the position for the next school year:

    • Emergency Preparedness (8 hours in the Fall, 1 per month thereafter)
    • Lice Check – 3 times a year, following every break (Sept., Jan., April)
    • Kilometre Club – Administrative and event day preparation (Sept. & Spring)
    • Christmas Hamper Coordinator for 2019 (Nov, Dec)

Parents Annual Survey

As always we look forward to your feedback in our Parents Annual Survey.  The survey is updated every year with new and relevant topics that require your input.  Please take a few minutes now to respond in this survey. It is anonymous unless you choose to leave your name.  We are aiming to have a higher participation rate this year so do not delay, please complete this survey now.

Drop-off Traffic Changes

Thank you for your cooperative response to our changes to the morning drop off procedures.  We have noticed an improvement in student safety and, therefore, will continue this week (June 17-21) with the parking lot closure at 8:45 am.

Please arrive by 8:40 am and keep your speed to 8 km through the lot.  Should you arrive after 8:45 am, the parking lot will be closed and you will need to properly park on the street and have your student walk up the sidewalk.  

Punctuality is important – please have your student in class and ready to learn by 8:50 am.


Probability Fair

The culmination of our grade 4 & 5 math program takes place with a probability fair on Tuesday, June 18. Students will create probability math games and experiments and display their results for students and parents. Parents are welcome from 2:30 to 3:00 pm to see the games and awards.


Last week Chapel and Awards

This last week of school there are a few changes to our usual chapel proceedings.  On Wednesday our K-3 students will attend at 9:00 am for a typical chapel service. At 11:00 am on Wednesday, Grades 4 and 5 will come down for the Grade 5 Celebration Chapel.  On Friday, June 21, at 9:00 am, the whole school will gather in the sanctuary for our Year-End Chapel, where we will be handing out awards, sharing other recognitions, and watching a compilation video of the 2018-2019 school year.


Yearbook Distribution

The yearbooks have arrived! They will be distributed by classroom teachers this Thursday, June 20.  Unclaimed yearbooks will be kept for one calendar year in the Port Coquitlam campus office and then will be used for school purposes.  We do have some extra yearbooks. They can be purchased for $25 (cheque only) from the school office until June 25, 2019. Gr. 5 Ultimate Frisbee

A fun students versus parents game is on the agenda for June 21.


Hot Lunch Volunteers

Thank you to all the parent volunteers for helping support this school year’s hot lunch. This coming June 21 will be our last Hot Lunch for the year. Please note the elementary school campus will be dismissed promptly at noon. Please arrive earlier, at 11:30am, to ensure bin and food distribution will meet the 12:00pm dismissal time. As always extra care and support should be given priority to our little ones K-3.

Reminder – Post Dated Tuition Cheques

For those families that paid full tuition amounts in February with a post dated cheque please note the dates for the post dated cheques for the 2019/2020 school year are coming up and being deposited as per the date entered on the cheques.

Please ensure that you are aware of the dates you inserted on your cheques and transfer funds to cover if needed. There is a $20.00 admin fee if these cheques are returned by the banks.


Volunteer Opportunity

The library bean bag covers need a wash and dry. There are 6 covers to be unzipped, taken home, washed, returned and put back on. If you can help in this way, please see Mrs. Payan in the library. Thank you!  

(All volunteer hours gathered after the June 15 cut off can be put towards the 2019/2020 school year.)

An email with full details was sent out Monday, May 13, and we are pleased to let our school families know that orders can be placed for the 2019/2020 pre-packaged school supplies.

After School Violin Classes for Next Year

We are accepting applications for group violin classes being offered after school for the 2019-2020 school year. We are hoping to run three classes after school from 3:10 – 4:10 pm based on age and level of experience.

The Monday class will be geared for beginner students in Kindergarten and Grade 1.  There are 8 spots in this class.

The Tuesday class will be geared for students in Grade 2-3 who have been playing for at least 1 year. There are only 2 spots available in that class.

The Thursday class will be geared for students in grades 3-5 who have been playing at least 2 years or more. There are only 4 spots available in that class.

Students who are older but are starting at the beginning level may want to sign up for private lessons throughout the summer so they can catch up with the students who have recently started.
