Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

The final PTL meeting for the 2018/19 school year took place on Friday, June 7.  As we close off this school year, we are already looking forward to a great new school year starting this fall, with new ideas and plans in the works!  Please use the following link to see the minutes from the June 7 PTL meeting for a look at what’s coming next school year:

Summer Book Club

A book club is proposed to run for 4 weeks in July.  The study book will be“Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire – What Happens When God’s Spirit Invades the Hearts of His People”, by Jim Cymbala ($18 at indigo.ca).

Current & Past Hope Community Events

If you are a current or past Committee Head, or have planned an event, please contact Lisa Klym at [email protected] to submit a job description of your position and/or details of the planning process.

Committee Co-ordinators

There are opportunities to job shadow the current Co-ordinators for these committees and to be trained to take over the position for the next school year:

    • Emergency Preparedness (8 hours in the Fall, 1 per month thereafter)
    • Lice Check – 3 times a year, following every break (Sept., Jan., April)
    • Kilometre Club – Administrative and event day preparation (Sept. & Spring)
    • Christmas Hamper Coordinator for 2019 (Nov, Dec)

Parent Volunteer Hours Deadline

Reminder to parents that June 15 is the deadline to enter volunteer hours on your youngest child’s classroom google document link. If you need access to this link, please email your classroom liaison.  Please email [email protected] prior to June 15 if you have any questions or need help.

Drop-off Traffic Changes

We care a lot about the traffic safety during drop-off and pick-up at the school.   We have observed, despite repeated requests for parents to not drop their students off in the handicapped stalls or for students to get out of vehicles mid-way through the line, the traffic flow in our lot at morning drop-off continues to be a problem, particularly after 8:45 am.

In an effort to protect the safety of our students, we are going to implement a trial with new measures for drop-off in the morning.   

Effective TOMORROW, Tuesday to Friday (June 11-14) the parking lot will close to all traffic at 8:45 am.  

Should you arrive after 8:45 am, you will need to legally park on the street and have your student walk up the sidewalk to the school.  Please DO NOT park on Frey Place. Handicapped parking spaces are only for those with a genuine need.

A reminder, if you are using the courtesy drop-off loop, prior to 8:45 am, please keep your speed to a maximum of 8 km through the lot and proceed to the designated area at the back of the building for drop-off.  This is the ONLY area students are permitted to exit their vehicle. During the trial period please make sure you follow these rules.

Also, as a reminder, the first bell rings at 8:40 am.  By the time the second bell rings at 8:50 am, students should be at their desks ready to learn.


Reminder – Post Dated Tuition Cheques

For those families that paid full tuition amounts in February with a post dated cheque please note the dates for the post dated cheques for the 2019/2020 school year are coming up and being deposited as per the date entered on the cheques.

Please ensure that you are aware of the dates you inserted on your cheques and transfer funds to cover if needed. There is a $20.00 admin fee if these cheques are returned by the Banks.


Parents Annual Survey

As always we look forward to your feedback in our Parents Annual Survey.  The survey is updated every year with new and relevant topics that require your input.  Please take a few minutes now to respond in this survey. It is anonymous unless you choose to leave your name.  We are aiming to have a higher participation rate this year so do not delay, please complete this survey now.

Gr. 5 Ultimate Frisbee

Congratulations to our first ever grade 4&5 Ultimate Frisbee team for placing second in a grade six tournament. The team played against many formidable opponents from some of the largest Christian school in the Fraser Valley.  This team was an exceptional representation of Christ with their sportsmanship and camaraderie. Perhaps a fun students versus parents game is on the agenda on June 21.


Carnival Invitations

On Sunday, June 23, a group of Christian churches will be hosting a carnival at Town Centre Park (Lafarge Lake) in Coquitlam, from 1:00 – 8:00 pm.  Information, via invitations to the carnival, will be distributed to students tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11. Check your child’s agenda for the info and invite a neighbour or friend!


After-school Violin Class Performances

Come to chapel this week, June 12, to hear performances from Tuesday’s and Thursday’s after school violin classes.  Also joining us will be the after school violin class from the Pitt Meadows campus.


Probability Fair

The culmination of our grade 4 & 5 math program takes place with a probability fair on Tuesday, June 18. Students will create probability math games and experiments and display their results for students and parents. Parents are welcome from 2:30 to 3:00 pm to see the games and awards.


Used Uniform Sale

Extra or outgrown uniforms gathering in your house? There will be a used uniform sale on Wednesday, June 19 at 3:00 pm.  Anyone wishing to sell is to arrange for their own table to be set up and supervised at the entrance under the covering.


Hot Lunch Volunteers

Thank you to all the parent volunteers for helping support this school year’s hot lunch. This coming June 21 will be our last Hot Lunch for the year. Please note the elementary school campus will be dismissed promptly at noon. Please arrive earlier, at 11:30am, to ensure bin and food distribution will meet the 12:00pm dismissal time. As always extra care and support should be given priority to our little ones K-3.

School Supply Forms

An email with full details was sent out Monday, May 13, and we are pleased to let our school families know that orders can be placed for the 2019/2020 pre-packaged school supplies.

After School Violin Classes for Next Year

We are accepting applications for group violin classes being offered after school for the 2019-2020 school year. We are hoping to run three classes after school from 3:10 – 4:10 pm based on age and level of experience.

The Monday class will be geared for beginner students in Kindergarten and Grade 1.  There are 8 spots in this class.

The Tuesday class will be geared for students in Grade 2-3 who have been playing for at least 1 year. There are only 2 spots available in that class.

The Thursday class will be geared for students in grades 3-5 who have been playing at least 2 years or more. There are only 4 spots available in that class.

Students who are older but are starting at the beginning level may want to sign up for private lessons throughout the summer so they can catch up with the students who have recently started.
