Community Relations

Prayer

The church, the family of God, is where we can do life together – all of it, the good and the not-so-good.  As a school community, we stand in support of our families, especially those who have been affected by the viral outbreak in China.  Romans 12:15 says “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” We are with you in this situation. If you would like to be remembered in prayer, please send your requests to [email protected] and we will support you in prayer.

Drama Club (Easter Production)

UPDATE: Due to an overwhelming student response this past Wednesday, students will need to audition for this session of Drama club! We are so glad that so many students are interested in this club; however, it is difficult to build skills and practice well with a group larger than 25 students. If you are not selected for this session of drama club, please stay tuned for announcements in late April for another opportunity. Auditions will take place during this week’s drama club as well as Thursday and Friday recesses.

Permission Forms should come home with your child today. Please follow this link if you need another copy. Drama Club Form 2020.

Passion Fair Project – March 12

All students are encouraged  to work in collaboration with their parents to present something that represents each child’s unique passions. Projects may take on many different themes, ideas, and forms that may include: multimedia, a pre-recorded performance, display board or poster, science demonstration, laptop slides or movies.

The Passion Project will take place on Thursday, March 12 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. There will also be a mandatory afternoon rehearsal on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Students must be prepared to present at both times.

Please register for the Passion Project online at this link

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, February 18

Union Gospel Mission (UGM)

For the last 5 years, Hope Lutheran has partnered with UGM – New Westminster financially through our Wednesday Chapel offerings, as well as physically with donations of new socks and toiletries for those in need, and we are excited to partner with them again for the 2019/2020 school year.

From now until Spring Break, students and families are encouraged to bring donations to school, which will be collected on Wednesdays during our school chapel service. During the service, students will have an opportunity to bring their donations to the altar.

For Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40

Items that are most in need are:

New socks – Men’s and Women’s

Deodorant – Men’s and Women’s

Razors – Men’s and Women’s

Travel size toiletries

“Demonstrating the love of Christ, Union Gospel Mission is determined to transform communities by overcoming poverty, homelessness, and addiction – one life at a time.”

Please help us as we seek to help those who are struggling and in need.

Mr. Mayer Has Written A Book!

Mr. Mayer has recently self-published a book! In the book, he unpacks a component of the new curriculum in British Columbia: Core Competencies.

Mr. Mayer has tried to clearly explain what the core competencies are and demonstrate how they come up in day to day life.

The story centers on a young girl in Grade 2, named Lucy. Throughout her day at school, she works on several important skills connected to a variety of core competencies.

Located at the end of most chapters are thoughts for teachers and parents. There is also a suggested reading list that can help introduce certain core competencies to children.

This book was primarily written for parents and teachers working with children in Kindergarten to Grade 3. However, parents and educators from other grades can also benefit from reading the story.

If you would like to order a book, see the following links:

Please stop by the office to get a copy.
