Drop Off and Pick Up UPDATE

Thank you to the vast majority of our parents who continue to show patience and adherence to our drop off and pick up procedures.  However, we have been made aware of an unsafe practice by some drivers.  When exiting our school lot into the alley – please always turn to the left (towards Frey or Oxford).  There is a lot of foot traffic on York Street and this can quickly become congested with cars, making it difficult for traffic to move safely. Thank you for following the expectations listed in our Handbook and registration booklet so we can ensure a community of respect and safety for all.

Used Book Sale

Are you looking for some new books to read? Class 3A is holding a used-book sale after school on February 24th in the gym! All funds raised will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation, and books that are not sold will be donated to Western Sky Books in Port Coquitlam.

Student Led Conferences

Next week, Thursday, March 2, there is no school in session, to accommodate our Student Led Conferences.  This is a formal reporting time, where our students will be sharing about their learning progress thus far this year.  Conferences will run from 1:00 – 5:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm.  There is no need to book/reserve a time.  You may come to the classroom with your child and they will share with you items they have prepared ahead of time with their teacher’s guidance to showcase their progress.

Elementary Recess Supervisor Needed

We have openings on our Elementary Campus Recess Supervision team and are looking for regularly scheduled spots to be filled as well as on-call people to cover in the event our regularly scheduled supervisor is unable to come in. Hours for this position are 10:15 am-1:00 pm, each day.  A CRC will be required and first aid training is preferred but not required.  Please submit your resume to jwatson@hopelcs.ca.

Chapel Offering for UGM

For this term we are collecting for the Union Gospel Mission.  What is unique is that while money donations are helpful and appreciated we are also collecting tangible items that are a great service to their community. Students will be able to bring items up to the front during our Wednesday chapels. Items such as NEW adult socks and underwear (large size both genders), personal toiletries (toothpaste, soap, etc), and tins of coffee are most appreciated.

Schola Bohemia Spring Break Camp

Schola Bohemia and Miss Rita will be running a Spring Break Camp.

Date: March 20-24, 2023

Time: 8:00 am – 5:30 pm (Core hours 9:00 am – 3:00 pm with structured activities)

Cost: $250  Fees can be paid via e-transfer: langrova@shaw.ca (registered for auto-deposit)

To Register: Contact Rita Langrova 604-220-4250

Beverage Returns

Another way to support missions fundraising – donate your returnable beverage containers.

Labels with our school’s QR code can be obtained in either campus office or printed at any Express Return-It depot by entering the number 604-111-2222 into the keypad on the Return-It kiosk at the depot (note, this is not a valid phone number but an access code to print labels).

Consider taking a labelled bag to your place of work and having your colleagues donate their beverage containers.  All proceeds raised will go directly towards the spring mission trip.

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).

CommUNITY Relations

Submissions are open for the March and April newsletters.  If you have an achievement to celebrate, a story to share or an example of an intentional act of kindness performed during our 12-day challenge, please let us know.  Submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Hope Community Prayer

Our next evening gathering is Tuesday, February 28, at 7:30 pm in the chapel.  All are welcome, children are encouraged to participate.  We hope to see you next Tuesday evening!

Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

PTL Coffee Fellowship

A coffee fellowship will take place this Friday, February 24th at the Elementary Campus, just in time for our cold weather snap.  Warm up your hands with a hot coffee and chat with other parents while enjoying home-baked goodies.  All parents are welcome.

The PTL has created a group Facebook page that is private to our Community.  We hope that by having this page, it will give Hope parents a one-stop resource for all our signups and other pertinent messaging.  Please ask to join the HLCS Parent Community private group page and answer the two security questions.

Participation Opportunities

March 18 – Campus Cleaning Day.  Many parents are required to assist with a thorough cleaning of our Elementary Campus on Saturday, March 18th.  Estimating 4 participation hours per person, depending on how many parents assist.  Contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca to participate.

Please view the list of Participation Opportunities for other areas to serve.

Grade 8 Mission Trip

For several years our school’s grade 8 class has participated in a mission trip to bless and be blessed by communities beyond our local neighbourhood. For the second year in a row, our grade 8 class is partnering with BC Mission Boat, and they will be going to Kyoquot, a First Nations community on Vancouver Island.

We look forward to having some of the mission trip students attend Hope’s service this Sunday, February 26, and share about their upcoming mission trip.  We will be taking a special offering in support of their trip, and they will be hosting a bake sale following the service.
