PI Academy Sports – Badminton Program

PI Sports will once again be offering a grade 1 – 8 badminton program at Hope for spring! As with previous programs, class size will be limited capacity, and it is encouraged that all those interested register early.  An email with registration details will be sent out to grade 1 – 8 families late afternoon, today, April 26.

Spell-a-thon Funds

If you have not done so yet: A reminder to everyone to bring in your Spell-a-thon pledge forms and money. All money raised will be used to support the BC Mission Boat Society Easter kit project. Pledge forms/money can be brought directly to either school office.

Musical Update

We are excited to inform you that we can now confirm the showing date of our 25th Anniversary Musical.  It will be shown in a Drive-In Movie style in the Riverside Community Church parking lot on Saturday, June 19.  This will be a wonderful way to end the school year.

A large LED screen will be constructed so that the audience can enjoy the show with the people in their own “bubble” inside their vehicle.  There will be a limit of 50 vehicles per show but there will be multiple showings on that day.  Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for ticket sale information coming soon which will be on a first come first serve basis for each show.

Anniversary Musical Assistance Opportunity

Attention all classes! Each class will be performing a song in our production which will be rehearsed and filmed on May 10, May 12, and May 13. We are asking each student to wear a pair of jeans and a solid coloured t-shirt for these performances. They can be brought to school and changed into for the performance. Small logos on t-shirts are acceptable, but not large ones.

Rehearsals continue Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after school. Starting this week rehearsals run until 5:00pm. Actors should have the costume pieces they are responsible for (jeans, t-shirts, leggings, etc.) ready for rehearsal on April 30. They can ask Mrs. MacLean if they aren’t sure what they need.

Please keep dropping off any prop items you have as soon as possible. We are still looking for some items and strange costume pieces for our musical, so if you have anything lying around your house or are able to thrift a little for the production, please sign up for any of the items in this link – Props/Costume Sign-up. Items can be dropped off at the office labelled for Mrs. MacLean. Please ensure your own name is on the item so it can be returned to you.

Lastly, calling all ALUMNI! For the last number in our musical, we are hoping to have alumni and other Hope community members be a part of a recorded chorus. If you or someone you know has been a part of the Hope community in some way, either as student, staff, or volunteering, we would LOVE to have you record yourself singing the song For Good. The link to the accompaniment track is found below. Please record yourself or 2 people from the shoulders up singing along to this song. Please send the file in for May 1, if possible. A plain background and recording from the shoulders up is preferred. Horizontal orientation is also appreciated. We will use short clips put together with others for our show. Please use the track for key and timing, but please  add any vocal part you wish. Email your recordings to [email protected]. Feel free to share this link with anyone who has been a part of our community since 1996! Thank you.

Last Day of School – June 22 (Noon Dismissal)

Please be aware that the last day of school will be June 22 with a NOON DISMISSAL.  This extension was due to the addition of several 1/2 day planning days into our calendar for additional teacher preparation. We thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this change.

Community Relations

Star Wars Fans – We Need Your Costumes

Our musical production team is particularly in need of Star Wars costumes and accessories, among other prop items.  Take a look and let us know if you have any of these items! Props/Costume Sign-up

Musical Production Assistance

Parents – we need you!  There are still some gaps to be filled to enable the filming to run smoothly.

Assistance is required during the recording sessions on May 10, 12 and 13.  Each day, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, is divided into three shifts.  Simple duties may include handing out props, sanitizing, being available to press a button for a spot light, etc.  Nothing elaborate, we just need people.  Please sign up at this link for one or more shifts:  Musical Production Assistance

25 for the 25th!  HLCS BOOK DRIVE

Please support our libraries!

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary a book drive is ongoing to directly benefit our school libraries at both campuses.  Our goal:  25 books for each grade!

Have you had a birthday recently that you’d like to donate a book in honor of your birthday?  We have a special sticker for that too!  Wouldn’t it be cool if your donated book had a 25th anniversary sticker and a birthday sticker attached to it?

Parents – here’s your chance to declutter and clean off your child’s bookshelf.  We’re accepting gently used books as well.

Please view our “Wish List” with tabs based on grade level: HLCS Book Drive

If you wish to make a monetary donation instead to fund the purchase of books, donations can be dropped off at either campus office (please mark your donation “Book Drive”).

Any questions can be directed to Lisa at [email protected]

Community Groups

Small groups are happening within our Hope community utilising an app-based Bible reading plan that can be read at any time each day.  Each daily reading takes about 10 minutes and space is provided for reflection.  Group members are connected through a chat feature and are engaging in meaningful conversation, getting to know each other better and being supported through prayer.

Men’, women’s and Chinese groups are ongoing.  If you would like to be a part of a community group, please email Lisa at [email protected] to get connected.

The feedback on these groups has been very positive.  Don’t delay.  Get into community!

Parent Prayer

Start your week in community with others. Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us in prayer for our school.

We will be meeting underneath the tents at the Port Coquitlam Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

Newsletter Submissions

Submissions are open for the June newsletter.  Looking back, what are some of your highlights?  How have you seen God working in the life of your family?

Do you have a testimonial about our school you’d like to share, perhaps a word of encouragement you’d like to express to the staff and/or our school community as we close out our 2021 school year?

Please send your stories and testimonials to Lisa Klym at [email protected].

Community Support

During this time of reduced gatherings and restrictions, we still want to be supportive of our greater community and encourage shopping locally.  Is there a small business in our Tri-Cities community that you can recommend or that you are a part of?

Please let Lisa Klym know at [email protected] and we’ll include them in our Shop Local business directory.
