COVID-19 Daily Health Check Website

The K-12 Health Check contains the most up-to-date B.C. health guidelines and is user-friendly for children to complete daily. This resource can assist in preventative measures for families and help with the decision on whether students should attend school that day.  You can also download the app via the following links: iPhone/iPad iOS or Android devices.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safety Concerns

We ask again that parents and guardians be extra vigilant in keeping our students safe during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up. We understand the limited parking at these busy times, and ask for patience and grace while finding a spot to park, while following the city signage and road rules. Please be aware that students and adults may be exiting vehicles into the street and leave appropriate spacing.  We thank you for your care and support of these measures.

Independent School Society – Q & A Meeting – Zoom Option Added

This is a reminder that our Q & A meeting will take place this evening, April 11, at 7:30 pm.  A zoom option has been added for this event.  You can participate remotely with this Zoom Link.  The in-person meeting will take place in the chapel at Hope Lutheran Church and School.

Temporary Accommodation Needed for Teacher

An incoming teacher is looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom furnished suite for a few months starting April/May that is close to or within walking distance to the elementary school.  Please contact Mr. Lok at [email protected] for more information if you have a referral.  Thank you.

Whole School Spell-a-thon

This year’s Spell-a-thon will take place on Friday, April 22 in every class from K-8. A reminder to K-5 parents to return the permission slip to your child’s teacher by this Thursday. All monies raised from pledges will go towards the Grade 8 grad in June and next year’s Grade 8 mission trip. For more details, please see the parent letter and package of information that was sent home with your child last Friday.

City-Wide Garage Sale

The City of Port Coquitlam’s City-wide garage sale gives residents a chance to declutter, make some cash and find a new home for reusable items. Held following Earth Week, the annual event is part of the City’s ongoing waste-reduction efforts. Participants dispose of their unwanted items in an earth-friendly way, while benefiting from the additional bargain hunters drawn out by the large number of garage sales.

This year the garage sale will be on April 23, 2022 and Hope Lutheran Church and School will be offering its parking lot for all families to sell their used goods.

Please see this CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE – LETTER for further information and how to participate.

This year, in order to maintain safety in group sizes we have decided to limit the dance to Elementary School Students only.

Please stay tuned for future events and activities geared towards Middle School.

Parent Learning Opportunity

Focus on the Family presents a free livestream event on April 19, 4:00 pm PST (recorded version available with registration).

Dr. Kathy Koch speaks on ways to “Secure Children’s Hearts to Unlock Their Potential”:

Childhood matters and today causes tomorrow. For children to experience their future potential, we must value them today. How do children know if we do? How can we secure their hearts, so we’ll have important influence and they’ll grow and become who God created them to be? Dr. Kathy will share three essential beliefs and three communication approaches that secure children’s hearts. You’ll appreciate the upbeat instruction and practical, realistic ideas.

Km Club

Thank you to all the parents who have been helping with Km Club.  The students are really enjoying it.  We still have a need for Counters after the run is finished – please refer to the signup.

Also, if you have signed up to assist, please be sure to show up for your shift.  The Club functions on parent support and we need all positions filled.

A reminder to participants that there are awards to achieve based on the total distance run.  The following is a guideline for award levels as this may be adjusted to account for any rainouts:

  • 24 – 35 km = bronze medal
  • 36 – 47 km = silver medal
  • 48 – 60 km = gold medal
  • 61+ km = trophy

Volunteer Opportunities

Grounds Cleanup – Elementary Campus

April 30, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.  We need 6-12 parents.  The sign up has been updated to include scope of project and tools needed.

Sports Day

Typically an Elementary Sports Day is held at the end of May/beginning of June.  If there are parents willing to assist, we can go ahead with this event for K-5 students.  A binder of procedures is available to reference and many of the supplies are stored at the school.  Possible dates are May 27 or June 10.

We’ve had a couple of parents express interest but we need one or two to take the lead on this event.  Please email the PTL if you are interested in coordinating Sports Day.  The coordination can be shared between multiple parents.

A list of ongoing opportunities for parents to participate can be found here.

Submissions are open for the May newsletter.  Do you have an achievement or special event you’d like to share? How about a story of wonder or exploring God’s creation?  What about some kudos to inspire others or ideas for intentional acts of kindness?
