Principal’s Post for January
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you. Psalm 33: 20-22
Sometimes a new year can be met with great anticipation as we make resolutions to improve our life in significant ways. Often times what begins with conviction and great intentions steadily dwindles to little more than a distant memory as we close out the month of January.
With gloomy forecasts of economic down turn, political uncertainty, and the fear of terror attacks that fill the media, one can feel apprehensive about welcoming in a new year. Even if 2017 promises to be a year of celebrations including Canada’s 150th birthday and the 500th year after the Reformation, one pauses to contemplate the security in placing our hope in finding joy in fleeting occasions.
We coined the term REAL Hope at our school when we implemented a positive school wide behaviour plan a little over two years ago. REAL is an acronym for respect, encouragement, adoration for the Lord, and love. The term resonated with our community and reflects the faith that we have in a real God that fills us with hope.
Although we may not know what the future holds, we do know the one who holds the future. It is amazing that the certain hope that we have is found in the baby that God gave to us over 2000 years ago in Bethlehem. Through the gift of faith, God reigns in our lives, overcoming our fears and providing us with His grace and mercy. The promise that Jesus made that he will be with us always to the very end of the age is the real hope that we can trust and celebrate.
As we gear up at Hope Lutheran Christian School for 2017, we invite parents to join together monthly in prayer as we seek God’s guidance and pray for His blessing as we strive to equip our students to impact the world for Christ’s glory. We look forward to 2017 with eager expectation and praise as we sing to the Lord a new song for the marvelous things that God does as we confidently place our hope in Him.
God’s Blessings on a New Year!
