New Parent Orientation Meeting
For our brand new families joining our Hope community, we welcome you and invite you to a New Parent Orientation Meeting this evening from 6:30 – 7:30 pm via zoom (see info sent in an email earlier today).
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Did your child achieve something special over the summer that you’d like to share with us; were they involved in any community/volunteer activity? We’d like to highlight that in the Kudos Korner of our school’s community newsletter, The Hope Herald. Please email Lisa Klym with your submissions at lklym@hopelcs.ca.
The first issue will come out this Friday, September 11. Be sure to look for the hard copy coming home with your child on Friday.
Upcoming news to report? Please let us know for inclusion in the October edition.

PTL News
The Hope Lutheran PTL Executive extends a BIG welcome to our new families joining us this year and we welcome back our returning families. We hope you have enjoyed your summer. We are looking forward to another great year as we focus on this year’s theme of “Faithfulness to All Generations”. Throughout the year, we will reflect with thanksgiving on God’s faithfulness to our school over the last 25 years and we look forward with faith and anticipation to what He has for us in the next 25 years.
The Mission Statement of our school is “Equipping Each Child to Impact the World for Christ’s Glory”. The PTL supports this mission with events and activities designed to reflect the Core Values of Equipping, Belonging, and Discipling.
Our first PTL meeting is Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 pm over Zoom. We hope as many parents as possible will be able to connect. Connection details will be sent closer to the meeting date.
Parent Prayer
Welcome to the 2020/2021 school year! As parents, we find encouragement and strength through prayer, from reading the Bible, and in community with one another. When you think about this year ahead do you feel anxious? Are you needing wisdom or encouragement? Do you want to spend time getting to know a few more parents? Or maybe you have a heart to pray for our school families, staff, and city.
Everyone is welcome to join us for Parent Prayer every Monday evening on Zoom from 7:00 – 7:30 pm (except for holidays).
Please email Tina Goetz for Zoom details: mylifeforhis@shaw.ca
See you next Monday, September 14!
Volunteering
We have always encouraged participation in the volunteer efforts of the PTL and the minimum amount of volunteer hours recommended for each family has been 15 hours in Term 1 (September–January), and another 15 hours in Term 2 (February–June). Historically, families were required to submit post-dated cheques to the PVH program and unmet hours were calculated and paid out of the submitted cheques.
The PTL is very sensitive to the unique circumstances each family is facing during this time of COVID. Additionally, we are uncertain what activities and social events we will be able to offer this year due to the current restrictions on gatherings and adherence to health and safety protocols. In light of these most unusual times, we have decided, for this 2020/21 school year, to forgo the collection of Parent Volunteer cheques and trust that families will continue serving as contributing members of our PTL in the volunteer opportunities that will be available. This also means there won’t be a need to track volunteer hours.

Fundraising Initiative
Hope Lutheran now has an account with the Biggar Bottle Depot at 2577 Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam. When returning your empty beverages containers, please consider applying your refund to the Hope Lutheran account by telling the cashier to apply the refund to Hope Lutheran School. All money raised will go towards supporting initiatives that directly benefit our students.
Additionally, we will be launching a recycling fundraising program with ReturnIt Express BC at a later date. Pre-labeled recycling bags will be sent home with your youngest child and your beverage recycling can be returned at any BC Return-It Express station. Further details will follow once the program is up and running. Stay tuned!
