The World Scholar’s Cup – Grades 4-8

The World Scholar’s Cup is an exciting, challenging and inclusive themed competition that provides an opportunity to demonstrate students’ learning, working as a team, rubbing shoulders with peers and having fun.  After being cancelled for two years, the organizers just confirmed that the event will restart locally and will be held on April 9 & 10 at Mulgraves School in West Vancouver.

Grade 4-8 parents and students who are interested in this event are invited to join a Zoom briefing to learn more.  Parents AND students must attend the Zoom meeting (Zoom Registration) on Monday, March 7, at 7:00 pm, if the student is looking to participate in the event.

Spring 2022 Badminton

We are excited to start badminton again at Hope! It had been a longer-than-expected break, and now is the time to get back on track. A warm welcome to new students this season and hope to see all returning students and their families.

In preparation for the CESS Tournament this April 20th, we want to encourage as many grade 6 to 8 students to participate by offering a no-fee special Spring training program for all middle school students who will attempt to qualify for the school team. This year, we appear to have many students who are new to the sport of badminton, and to better support, their learning, each category of students will receive “private lessons” that will help propel their game quicker to a competitive level. For example, a doubles team consisting of 2 partnered players will learn together during their sessions, and a Singles player will be on-court him or herself with the coach. We ask the parents of those partnered in the Doubles category to work with one another to arrive together for the private lessons. Regardless of which students qualify for the team, we hope to hear all the parents from Middle School encourage their children to register as soon as possible to experience the team Tryout process.

Note: The time slots will be available next week. Please refer back to this same SignUp link for updated details on registering the appropriate lesson time.

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

PTL News

PTL Meeting

A PTL meeting was conducted last week the minutes can be viewed here: PTL Minutes March 3-22

Parent Assistance Opportunities

One Parent is required on Saturday, March 12 to take books from the middle school campus to be recycled in South Vancouver.  Time spent driving to and from the recycling depot will count as parent participation hours.  Please email the PTL to volunteer (hopelutheranptl@hopelcs.ca).

Km Club Starting Soon

Our spring Km Club will start after spring break on Monday, March 28th and run every M/W/F for 15 days.  Please register runner’s participation in advance, by March 9th:  Km Club Spring Registration.

Parents and caregivers – you must be present at McLean Park while your child runs.  There are some necessary positions you can volunteer for while the students are running and time spent counts towards the Parent Participation program.  All caregivers of students participating are strongly encouraged to volunteer for a minimum of five days.  Please sign up at the following form to help with our club:  Km Club Volunteer Positions

A list of ongoing opportunities for parents to participate can be found here.

Coffee Fellowship

At our PTL meeting last week a poll was conducted asking if the monthly Coffee Fellowship times at the Elementary Campus should continue, due to the low attendance.  50% of participants voted to continue with offering the coffee time.

We look forward to connecting with the 50% on Friday, March 11th at 8:45 in the Elementary Campus parking lot.

Community Relations

Newsletter

Submissions are open for the April newsletter.  Do you have an achievement or special event you’d like to share? How about a story of wonder or exploring God’s creation?  What about some kudos to inspire others or ideas for intentional acts of kindness?

Please send your submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Hope Prayer Community

The last Tuesday of each month from 7:30-8:30 pm is now dedicated to gathering in the chapel as a community to pray for each other, the ministry of our school, Hope church and our greater community.

We had a wonderful time last week in prayer with multiple languages and even children participating – it was marvellous to hear their little voices rise in prayer to our Lord.  Our prayers are an offering to God and all families of all languages are invited to attend.  Feel free to pray in your own language.  An outline of prayer points is provided to give you some structure.

Anyone willing to lead us in a few songs of worship on March 29th, please contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Parent Resources

Book recommendation:  “The Gift of Failure – How Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children can Succeed”, by Jessica Lahey

Available through the Fraser Valley Regional Library and for retail purchase, this book offers advice on how parents must learn to allow their children to experience the disappointment and frustration that occur from life’s inevitable problems so that they can grow up to be successful, resilient, and self-reliant adults.

A seminar entitled “Resiliency – The Gift of Failure” will be made available to parents via a pre-recorded link.  Connection details will be shared in the near future.

Art Classes

Some students may remember taking an online art class with Mrs. O during our Hope @ Home learning time.  Mrs. O is offering another series of art classes starting next Saturday, March 12th from 10 am-12 pm at her beautiful Pitt Meadows studio at 13916 Reichenbach Road.  Classes will also run on March 19th and 26th.  The group of three classes is $135 and is designed for students aged 10-12.  No prior drawing experience is needed.  Her portfolio can be viewed at wallflowersandbeyond.com.

Please contact Judy Osiowy at wallflowersandbeyond@gmail.com to register.
