2023-24 Re-enrolment Period for Current Families
Early each calendar year our current families are required to complete and submit re-enrolment forms to secure their child(ren)’s space(s) for the upcoming school year. The School provides a 2 week window for families to complete this process.
The 2023/24 school year re-enrolment period is now open and will close at 4:00 PM, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10th.
Please refer to the email sent out to families on Friday, January 27 for the information and forms required for re-enrolment.
This is an important time for the school community as this sets the framework for what classes will look like for the 2023-24 school year. We thank you for the attention and promptness you will put in your response during this re-enrolment period.
Scholastic Book Fair
Used Book Sale
Are you looking for some new books to read? Class 3A is holding a used-book sale after school on February 24th in the Elementary School campus gym! All funds raised will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation, and books that are not sold will be donated to Western Sky Books in Port Coquitlam. We are inviting all students in all grades to check if they have unused books, in good condition, at home and to consider donating them to this initiative. If you have any books at home that you don’t want anymore, please send them to the Middle School campus office, by February 17th, and they will be taken to the gr. 3A classroom. Thank you so much, and don’t forget to drop by the gym after school on February 24th to get some new reads!

The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI)
Hope Lutheran Christian School has partnered with the Federation of Independent School Association in BC (FISA BC) and the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at the University of British Columbia to measure and promote children’s social and emotional development, health, well-being, and assets through the Middle Year Development Instrument (MDI). The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in middle childhood about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The MDI is the first survey of its kind to gather information about the lives of children both in school, in the home, and in the community, from their own perspective. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education’s K-12 curriculum, which includes a focus on promoting children’s personal and social competencies.
Grade 8 students are invited to complete the MDI during class time between:
January 10th and March 3rd, 2023.
For more information and to view the questionnaires:
Contact the MDI project staff at mdi@help.ubc.ca or connect with your FISA Mental Health Coordinators: Michelle Hussey (michelle_mhc@fisabc.ca) and/or Jamie Morris (jamie_mhc@fisabc.ca)

If you don’t want your child to participate, please contact your child’s teacher, fill out the withdrawal form at the end of the parent/guardian informed passive consent letter, or contact the MDI project staff at mdi@help.ubc.ca.

PTL News
The PTL has created a group Facebook page that is private to our Community. We hope that by having this page, it will give Hope parents a one-stop resource for all our signups and other pertinent messaging. Please ask to join the HLCS Parent Community private group page and answer the two security questions.
Grade 8 Missions Trip – Beverage Returns
Another way to support missions fundraising – donate your returnable beverage containers.
Labels with our school’s QR code can be obtained in either the campus office or printed at any Express Return-It depot by entering the number 604-111-2222 into the keypad on the Return-It kiosk at the depot (note, this is not a valid phone number but an access code to print labels).
All proceeds raised will go directly towards the spring mission trip.

Participation Opportunities
PLEASE NOTE, the deadline to record your participation hours is tomorrow, January 31st. After that date, the Term 1 sheets will be closed and hours tallied. Term 2 sheets will be shared with all parents in early February.
- Parents are to provide home-baked goods to sell at the Grade 8 Bake Sale on March 2 during student-led conferences.
- Grade 8 students and parents are supplying the bulk of the baked goods but the opportunity is given for any parent to provide home baking in exchange for participation hours. Contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca to participate.
- Do you enjoy photography and capturing special moments? The Grade 8 Grad Committee is looking for a parent to take high-quality photos of our Grade 8 students in individual and group shots for their graduation celebration. The photographer will need to capture candid moments of our smiling students. Photo day will be sometime in May at Aggie Park, adjacent to our middle school campus. Please contact Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca to volunteer or to see examples of desired shots.
Please view the list of Participation Opportunities for other areas to serve.
Newsletter
Submissions are open for the February newsletter. During February we hold our annual Intentional Acts of Kindness challenge. What do you do to extend kindness to others? Are you serving in a ministry or volunteering in a community group? If so, we’d like to hear from you.
Inspire others to do good by sharing your story. Please email Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.
Prayer Community
Wondering about a new year’s resolution? How about making prayer a priority for 2023? Join our community of prayer partners as we gather each week at the Elementary Campus entrance and each month in the Chapel to pray for our school community and beyond.
Prayer meetings take place every Monday at 8:45 am outside the Elementary entrance and the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Elementary Chapel – all are welcome and children are encouraged to participate in the evening prayer time.
Our next evening gathering is Tuesday, January 31 at 7:30 pm – hope to see you there.
Parent Prayer
You are welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.
We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.
Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).
