Re-Enrolment 2021-2022
A reminder that the 2021-2022 Re-enrolment will close this Friday, February 12, 2021, at 4:00 pm.
To assist families in not missing this important date, the school office will be reaching out and contacting the families (on Thursday) that have not submitted re-enrolment forms by end of the day Wednesday, February 10.
*Due to the daily transfer limit for eTransfers, unfortunately, the eTransfer option for paying the full year’s tuition payment has had to be removed. Parents who were interested in this option, please submit your payment by cheque.
The re-enrolment package was sent out via email to all school families with students currently in grades K – 7, on January 29, 2021. The school office requests that you please take time to review all the information in the re-enrolment package, before contacting the school offices with questions about re-enrolment.
Please note, annual re-enrolment fees and prepaid tuition deposits are due and required to be submitted with the re-enrolment forms, along with the selected option for 2021/22 tuition payment.
Grade 5 Celebration/Grade 8 Grad $2 Purdy’s Chocolate Bar Fundraiser

Just in time for Valentine’s Day and/or Chinese New Year! With each purchase, you will also receive your choice of a fun Valentine’s Day or New Year themed chocolate bar wrapper. We also have 50 dark chocolate salt toffee bars which will cost $3 each.
Financial Donations for BC Mission Boat Project
Families who would like to financially support the middle school’s mission project may drop off a cheque made out to the BC Mission Boat Society (NOT to the school – our apologies as this has changed). Alternatively, donations can be made via the BC Mission Boat website https://bcmissionboat.org/ – simply click the “Donate Now” button at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Please remember to make a note where prompted to indicate that the funds are to be designated for “Hope Lutheran Christian School Easter Project.”
Anniversary Musical First Rehearsal
If your name was posted on the cast list this past Friday, please join us at the Port Coquitlam campus gym this Friday, February 12, from 3:15 – 4:15 pm for a meeting and rehearsal. Each cohort will have a corner, so please look for your grade when arriving. This will be an information meeting where you will receive your permission slip, calendar of rehearsals, and other important information. Permission slips will be due Tuesday, February 16. See you there!

Collecting Beads/Plastic Cord
Over the next couple of months, the middle school students will be working with the BC Mission Boat Society to put together Easter Kits that will be sent to families in remote First Nations communities. We are looking for donations of 9mm pony beads and plastic cord which will be used to make beaded cross keychains. These items can be dropped off at the office at the Pitt Meadows campus or left in the labeled box outside the office at the Port Coquitlam campus.

OPPORTUNITY FOR SERVICE
Do you enjoy gardening, getting your hands dirty, and watching plants grow? The Middle School Gardening Club is in need of someone to take over the leadership. This will be their third year, and the students really enjoy learning about agriculture and the science of how things grow.
Provided we have leadership our student Gardening Club will start early April, directly following spring break, and run till mid-June, after school once a week (on a day convenient to the organizer and the school). Unlike previous years, the club will run completely on-site at the school. The students will transplant seedlings in the school greenhouse and tend to them until harvest.
If leading this club interests you, please email the Middle School Vice-Principal, Miss Nast (enast@hopelcs.ca).

INTENTIONAL ACTS OF KINDNESS – A 12-Day Challenge
The smallest act of kindness can change someone’s entire day! It can come from anyone at any time. And, it’s the little things that can mean so much.
To show our heart for the community of Hope, all families (staff, students & parents) are challenged to show Intentional Acts Of Kindness (IAOK) and declare “ImA-OK” during the last two weeks of February, from February 15-26.
Heart-shaped R.E.A.L. tickets will be awarded to students caught in acts of kindness. Blank heart-shaped notes will be available for students and staff in classrooms and common areas to write notes of encouragement, appreciation or compliments to each other.
Each day, from February 15-26, whether at home or at school, consciously perform an act of kindness. Be thoughtful and intentional – there’s no lower limit to kindness.
Kindness is a gift that everyone can afford. Take the 12-day challenge. Inspire others and let us know!
Share your inspiring stories and ideas for kindness at lklym@hopelcs.ca. Ideas for kindness will be published in the March newsletter. Be an inspiration to others!
GET CONNECTED
Small Community Groups consisting of 4-6 parents are popping up around the Hope community. Get connected and be encouraged by joining a group. Using the YouVersion Bible App, you will engage in a 14-day reading plan consisting of uplifting and encouraging daily devotionals with corresponding Bible verses. All those subscribed to the reading plan will be able to comment and chat with group members, sharing how that day’s reading impacted you. Be a part of our community and dig deeper into God’s Word. The next group will start on February 15th. Please email Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca to get connected.
CALLING ALL PARENTS, STAFF, AND KIDS
We’d like to know how God has been faithful to you and your family during this COVID season. How have you seen God at work providing for you? What blessings can you identify in the midst of a worldwide pandemic?
We’re now more than halfway through our school year and, to end off the year, we’d like to highlight those examples of God’s faithfulness to all generations. Start thinking now about your experience during this school year and how you have seen God’s grace and mercy shown.
Please provide your short testimonials to Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca by May 20th for inclusion in the June newsletter. Please state if you do not want your name printed.

Climbing Club
The club is taking place every Monday and Thursday (excluding holidays and long weekends) until June 10th, 2021 from 3:10 pm-4:30 pm.
Students are required to bring the following items: climbing shoes, harness, and chalk (chalk bag/liquid chalk). This will ensure that students are not sharing equipment, keeping the Climbing Club as safe as possible.
Students wanting to participate are required to sign up by completing this Google Form: https://forms.gle/tkkLYiJWEmFBavRX7
The Climbing Club is limited to 15 students to ensure safety and proper social distancing. Students will be required to wear masks when belaying and climbing, and wash/sanitize hands prior to climbing. The Climbing Club will have focused training/climbing at the middle school campus, but there will be opportunities to climb at local gyms in the area, in the future. Students/parents will be expected to cover any additional costs related to these outings if the student chooses to attend.
I look forward to seeing you out on our wall,
Mr. O’Dell

Extreme Weather Closures
With the forecast of snow this coming weekend, please note the following important information regarding Hope Lutheran Christian School closures due to extreme weather:
- The decision to close (full day or partial day/late start) the School due to extreme weather will be made by 7:00 am, on the day of the closure, so families can make alternate arrangements.
- The announcement will be posted as quickly as possible on our Facebook page and our school website. Do not phone the school, as staff will not be available.
- The decision will be made taking into consideration the safety of our families and staff, and the School’s ability to operate normally, and will be based on the best information available at the time.
- Any extreme weather closures will automatically apply to both campuses, and Schola Bohemia – Before and After School Care.
- Hope Lutheran’s extreme weather closures may not be the same as the local School Districts’ closures.
- Winter weather can change quickly, therefore, when the School remains open, all decisions regarding travel to and from the School are the responsibility of each family.
