Winter Activity Day

Information and permission forms for the Winter Activity Day were sent home last week.  We will be going to Mt. Seymour on March 5th, and students will have the choice of skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing and tobogganing.  This field trip is partially subsidized by the PTL. Forms and payment are due this Friday (February 7th). As this event is part of the PE program, all students are expected to attend.  Please email Mrs. Olding if you have any questions or concerns (lolding@hopelcs.ca).

Priority for this club is for students not enrolled in the Pi Academy program.  The Dates are Jan 10, 17, 31, Feb 7, 21, 28, Mar 6, 13 and will provide an opportunity for those students to qualify for the tournament.  Those qualifying for the tournament will have additional practices before the tournament on April 16th.

Chess Club

PM Campus Chess Club will officially move from Thursday lunch to Tuesday after school until 4:15 pm every week until LEST. This will be a fairly advanced level of theory, exercises, and drills as we are honing our skills for competition play. All who know all the basic mechanics of chess are welcome. Sign up is limited to16 spots. Those with aspirations to be Hope representatives for LEST should sign up as some qualification matches will occur during club time.

Yearbook

The deadline for ordering a yearbook was January 31; online orders are no longer accepted.  if you missed the ordering deadline and would like to purchase a yearbook, please contact Mrs. Lightbourn (slightbourn@hopelcs.ca) as soon as possible.

PTL News

Our “Hearts for Hope” fundraiser is now active!  Tax-deductible donations can be made through our “Donate” button on our website for the entire month of February.  Please visit hopelcs.ca/school and click on the green “Donate” button in the upper right corner. Your tax receipt will be emailed to you along with a confirmation receipt of your donation.

Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 for the purchase of our own school bus – a suitable bus owned and operated by Hope Lutheran School to service both campuses!

Our celebration and cultural awareness event is on Sat., February 29th at 6pm (this was moved from Feb. 8th).  Please continue to register your attendance in our RSVP link here: Hearts for Hope Community Event

Our Planning Committee is in the process of pulling all the details of our wonderful event together.  We hope, with the change of date to later in the month, that most of our families will feel more comfortable attending.

Parent Learning Opportunity

Parents, do you sometimes wonder what goes on in a classroom and would you like to sit in on a learning session?  Your opportunity is here. The Grade 5 classes have been studying social injustice towards certain cultures in the past and early years of Canadian immigration.  As a supplement to this portion of their Social Studies, we have invited a very special guest speaker to speak to both classes on Thursday, February 6th at 12:45 in the Port Coquitlam chapel.

Author and local resident, Sumi Kinoshita, will be speaking to our classes about her time spent in the Japanese internment camps of BC during the Second World War.  All are welcome to attend and hear her story.

Parent Volunteer Hours

Term 1 sheets are now closed.  Term 2 sheets will be sent by your liaisons this week.  Please record any hours you serve in Term 2 on your youngest child’s class spreadsheet.
