Student Led Conferences
Next week, Thursday, March 2, there is no school in session, to accommodate our Student Led Conferences. This is a formal reporting time, where our students will be sharing about their learning progress thus far this year. Conferences will run from 1:00 – 5:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm. There is no need to book/reserve a time. You may come to the classroom with your child and they will share with you items they have prepared ahead of time with their teacher’s guidance to showcase their progress.
Elementary Recess Supervisor Needed
We have openings on our Elementary Campus Recess Supervision team and are looking for regularly scheduled spots to be filled as well as on call people to cover in the event our regularly schedule supervisor is unable to come in. A CRC will be required and first aid training is preferred but not required. Please submit your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is that time again for badminton! Coach Ken would like to express his sincere appreciation for being so patient with his leg recovery, and the many get-well emails over the last months-thank you!
As the young grades require much more physical movement, and he has yet to recover to a point where he can comfortably coach them, please note that the coming winter months of February and March, lessons will only be open for grades 6 to 8. Elementary grades 1 through 5 will begin from spring in April.
Please register in the appropriate time slot for your child, and he hopes to see all of you again soon!
- During the signup process, please put your “child’s name” under the “My Comment” tab, and the parent’s name under this area (First, Last) along with your email.
- Please ensure your child wears indoor shoes during class, and to bring their rackets if they have one

Grade 8 Missions Trip – Beverage Returns
Another way to support missions fundraising – donate your returnable beverage containers.
Labels with our school’s QR code can be obtained in either campus office or printed at any Express Return-It depot by entering the number 604-111-2222 into the keypad on the Return-It kiosk at the depot (note, this is not a valid phone number but an access code to print labels).
Consider taking a labeled bag to your place of work and having your colleagues donate their beverage containers. All proceeds raised will go directly towards the spring mission trip.
PTL Coffee Fellowship
A coffee fellowship will take place this Friday, February 24th at the Elementary Campus, just in time for our cold weather snap. Warm up your hands with a hot coffee and chat with other parents while enjoying home-baked goodies. All parents are welcome.
The PTL has created a group Facebook page that is private to our Community. We hope that by having this page, it will give Hope parents a one-stop resource for all our signups and other pertinent messaging. Please ask to join the HLCS Parent Community private group page and answer the two security questions.
March 18 – Campus Cleaning Day. Many parents are required to assist with a thorough cleaning of our Elementary Campus on Saturday, March 18th. Estimating 4 participation hours per person, depending on how many parents assist. Contact Lisa at firstname.lastname@example.org to participate.
Submissions are open for the March and April newsletters. If you have an achievement to celebrate, a story to share or an example of an intentional act of kindness performed during our 12-day challenge, please let us know. Submissions to Lisa Klym at email@example.com.
Hope Community Prayer
Our next evening gathering is Tuesday, February 28th at 7:30 in the chapel. All are welcome, children are encouraged to participate. We hope to see you next Tuesday evening!
You are welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.
We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.
Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).
Hope Lutheran Church Happenings
Pastor Vic Esperanza will lead us at our 9:00-10:00 am service this Sunday. As always, the service will be live-streamed to watch at 9am or anytime afterwards:
Hope Lenten services on Wednesdays till Easter starting on Ash Wednesday February 22nd at 6:00 pm with potluck dinner followed by 7:00 pm services, then every Wednesday until Easter.
Grade 8 Mission Trip
For several years our school’s grade 8 class has participated in a mission trip to bless and be blessed by communities beyond our local neighbourhood. For the second year in a row, our grade 8 class is partnering with BC Mission Boat, and they will be going to Kyoquot, a First Nations community on Vancouver Island.
We look forward to having some of the mission trip students attend Hope’s service this Sunday, February 26, and share about their upcoming mission trip. We will be taking a special offering in support of their trip, and they will be hosting a bake sale following the service.

The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI)
Hope Lutheran Christian School has partnered with the Federation of Independent School Association in BC (FISA BC) and the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at the University of British Columbia to measure and promote children’s social and emotional development, health, well-being, and assets through the Middle Year Development Instrument (MDI). The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in middle childhood about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The MDI is the first survey of its kind to gather information about the lives of children both in school, in the home, and in the community, from their own perspective. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education’s K-12 curriculum, which includes a focus on promoting children’s personal and social competencies.
Grade 8 students are invited to complete the MDI during class time between:
January 10th and March 3rd, 2023.
For more information and to view the questionnaires:
Contact the MDI project staff at firstname.lastname@example.org or connect with your FISA Mental Health Coordinators: Michelle Hussey (email@example.com) and/or Jamie Morris (firstname.lastname@example.org)
If you don’t want your child to participate, please contact your child’s teacher, fill out the withdrawal form at the end of the parent/guardian informed passive consent letter, or contact the MDI project staff at email@example.com.
