Badminton

It is that time again for badminton! Coach Ken would like to express his sincere appreciation for being so patient with his leg recovery, and the many get-well emails over the last months-thank you!

As the young grades require much more physical movement, and he has yet to recover to a point where he can comfortably coach them, please note that the coming winter months of February and March, lessons will only be open for grades 6 to 8. Elementary grades 1 through 5 will begin from spring in April.

Please register in the appropriate time slot for your child, and he hopes to see all of you again soon!

Note:

  • During the signup process, please put your “child’s name” under the “My Comment” tab, and the parent’s name under this area (First, Last) along with your email.
  • Please ensure your child wears indoor shoes during class, and to bring their rackets if they have one

Used Book Sale

Are you looking for some new books to read? Class 3A is holding a used-book sale after school on February 24th in the Elementary School campus gym! All funds raised will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation, and books that are not sold will be donated to Western Sky Books in Port Coquitlam. We are inviting all students in all grades to check if they have unused books, in good condition, at home and to consider donating them to this initiative. If you have any books at home that you don’t want anymore, please send them to the Middle School campus office, by February 17th, and they will be taken to the gr. 3A classroom. Thank you so much, and don’t forget to drop by the elementary campus gym after school on February 24th to get some new reads!

PTL News

The PTL has created a group Facebook page that is private to our Community.  We hope that by having this page, it will give Hope parents a one-stop resource for all our signups and other pertinent messaging.  Please ask to join the HLCS Parent Community private group page and answer the two security questions.

Grade 8 Missions Trip – Beverage Returns

Another way to support missions fundraising – donate your returnable beverage containers.

Labels with our school’s QR code can be obtained in either campus office or printed at any Express Return-It depot by entering the number 604-111-2222 into the keypad on the Return-It kiosk at the depot (note, this is not a valid phone number but an access code to print labels).

Consider taking a labeled bag to your place of work and having your colleagues donate their beverage containers.  All proceeds raised will go directly towards the spring mission trip.

Parent Participation Program

Term 1 hours are being calculated and you will be notified if you are to receive a reimbursement.

The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI)

Hope Lutheran Christian School has partnered with the Federation of Independent School Association in BC (FISA BC) and the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at the University of British Columbia to measure and promote children’s social and emotional development, health, well-being, and assets through the Middle Year Development Instrument (MDI). The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in middle childhood about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The MDI is the first survey of its kind to gather information about the lives of children both in school, in the home, and in the community, from their own perspective. The survey questions align with the BC Ministry of Education’s K-12 curriculum, which includes a focus on promoting children’s personal and social competencies.

Grade 8 students are invited to complete the MDI during class time between:
January 10th and March 3rd, 2023.

For more information and to view the questionnaires:

Contact the MDI project staff at mdi@help.ubc.ca or connect with your FISA Mental Health Coordinators: Michelle Hussey (michelle_mhc@fisabc.ca) and/or Jamie Morris (jamie_mhc@fisabc.ca)
