City-Wide Garage Sale

The City of Port Coquitlam’s City-wide garage sale gives residents a chance to declutter, make some cash and find a new home for reusable items. Held following Earth Week, the annual event is part of the City’s ongoing waste-reduction efforts. Participants dispose of their unwanted items in an earth-friendly way while benefiting from the additional bargain hunters drawn out by a large number of garage sales.

This year the garage sale will be on April 23, 2022, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm and Hope Lutheran Church and School will be offering its parking lot for all families to sell their used goods.

If you are interested in renting a space/table please see this

Please see this CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE – LETTER for further information and on how to participate.

All are invited to attend the Garage Sale!

Whole School Spell-a-thon

This year’s Spell-a-thon will take place this Friday, April 22 in every class from K-8. All monies raised from pledges will go towards the Grade 8 grad in June and next year’s Grade 8 mission trip. For more details, please see the parent letter and package of information that was sent home with your child Friday, April 8.

Hope Lutheran Junior Youth

Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for students in Grades 5-8, connecting students with Jesus and one another.

Staff Appreciation Responses

Our staff appreciation luncheon is coming up soon.  Emails have been sent by your Class Liaison that includes a link for students and parents to express their appreciation and thanks to classroom teachers and other staff members.  All entries will be made available at the luncheon for staff members to read.  If you would like to submit a note of appreciation, please be sure to fill out the Staff Appreciation form before April 29th.

Parent Learning Opportunity

Focus on the Family presents a free live stream event on April 19 at 4 pm PST (recorded version available with registration).

Dr. Kathy Koch speaks on ways to “Secure Children’s Hearts to Unlock Their Potential”:

Childhood matters and today causes tomorrow. For children to experience their future potential, we must value them today. How do children know if we do? How can we secure their hearts, so we’ll have an important influence and they’ll grow and become who God created them to be? Dr. Kathy will share three essential beliefs and three communication approaches that secure children’s hearts. You’ll appreciate the upbeat instruction and practical, realistic ideas.

Sports Day

Thank you to the parents who have offered to assist with Sports Day, however, we do not yet have parents willing to take the lead in coordinating this event.  Typically the day is split with younger grades in the morning and the older grades in the afternoon.  If there are two Parent Coordinators, you can divide the day between you and one person does not have to be present for the entire day.

If we do not have a Coordinator in place by April 29th, the K-5 Sports Day will not take place.

If you are wanting more information on Sports Day, please contact Mrs. Watson.

Please email the PTL if you are interested in coordinating Sports Day.  The coordination can be shared between multiple parents.

Middle School Mixer – The MS social event of the year!

Middle school students – SAVE THE DATE!

Friday, June 10th is a fun PTL-hosted social event just for you.  Signup details will be posted next Monday and you need to let us know if you’re attending by May 16th.

  • Grounds Cleanup – April 30th, 9 am-2 pm.  We need 6-12 parents.  The sign up has been updated to include the scope of the project and the tools needed
  • Middle School Open House Committee – a parent committee is forming to plan for an open house to showcase our new campus space and involve the greater community in a celebration at the start of the next school year.  The open house date is set for September 24, 2022.  If you enjoy event planning and would like to lend your ideas and experience to this committee, please contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca.  We will start planning at the beginning of May.

A list of ongoing opportunities for parents to participate can be found here

Community Relations

Submissions are open for the May newsletter.  Do you have an achievement or special event you’d like to share? How about a story of wonder or exploring God’s creation?  What about some kudos to inspire others or ideas for intentional acts of kindness?

Please send your submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca

Hope Community Prayer Evening

Our next community prayer gathering is Tuesday, April 26th at 7:30 pm in the chapel.  Come and hear the story of one parent’s journey from seeking the Truth in a persecuted nation to finding Hope in Port Coquitlam.  All are welcome, children included, and multi-languages are encouraged!

Bible Reading Plan

A new reading plan is starting next Monday, April 25th.  If you would like to be included in this small group of parents, please email Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca with your mobile number to receive a text invitation

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).
