Submissions are open for the October newsletter. Do you have a poem or joke to share? A Thanksgiving recipe? A special achievement to highlight? Send your submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.
Important Notice Re: 2020 Kindergarten Eligible Siblings
Although it feels like the school year has just begun, in the office we are already preparing for next September!
Each year we set aside spaces in our upcoming Kindergarten classes for potential incoming siblings. This information is determined by what a family has entered on the registration form of their older child.
We recognize that it may have been over 5 years since the first student in a family joined us at Hope Lutheran, and new siblings may have been added, or this section might not have been completed by the family at the time of registration .
If your family has a younger child who would be eligible for Kindergarten 2020 (born in 2015), and you did not receive an email today from our registrar Clare Wood, regarding the 2020 Kindergarten sibling application process, please contact Clare directly at cwood@hopelcs.ca, by no later than Friday, October 11.
Emergency Release Text Messaging
As an additional way to communicate important emergency messages to our parents, we will be testing an emergency text messaging system tomorrow, October 1, at 1:00 pm to inform you about the emergency release. Please note that the message will be sent to only ONE parent mobile number, the parent who is listed as the primary contact. If you have more than one child at the same campus, you will receive only ONE message. If this message is not received tomorrow by either parent, please inform our school office. Going forward we will be using this texting system as an additional communication method for major emergencies only.
After School Activities – October 1
Tuesday, October 1, after school activities will not be cancelled. Therefore parents are asked to complete the Emergency Release Drill, leave the school premises, and come back to the school at the regular lesson time for that activity. Please do not delay your emergency release pick up. Thank you.
Special Person’s Day
Invitations are going home today for our Special Person’s Day that is happening on Wednesday, October 9 from 9:00 – 10:30 am. This is an opportunity for students to bring in a special adult in their lives (not a parent) and share some of what they do at school with them. Special persons will arrive at 9:00 am for chapel, followed by a visit with the student in their classroom. There will be light refreshments provided as well.
Grade 4 Foundational Skills Assessment Test
The BC Ministry of Education’s Foundational Skills Assessment (FSA) test will take place between October 15 to October 22. Please try and avoid scheduling appointments during this week and make sure your grade four child gets good rest each evening.
Cross Country
Our grade 4 and 5 cross country team practices on Tuesdays from 12:00 to 12:25 pm. Cross country team members must also be participating in the school Km club. Use this link to sign your child up for cross country
Our race is October 23 at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. We need parent helpers to set up and supervise our runs on Tuesdays and for our special afterschool race on Monday, October 21. Please email Mr. Mathew (dmathew@hopelcs.ca) if you can help.
Hope Lutheran Junior Youth (Grades 5-8)
Junior Youth is a ministry of Hope Lutheran Church for all students in grades 5-8 to grow in friendships and faith!
Our next event is a *pre-registered and offsite* event on Saturday, October 5.
To join our email list, please email Mrs. Stephanie Mayer (smayer@hopelcs.ca).
Blessings!
