Individual Student Photo Day

Formal Uniform Required

Get ready to put on your best smile! Tuesday, September 28, is Individual Student Photo Day at the Elementary campus.  Students will be required to be in their formal uniforms.

Some tips from our photo company, Mountain West, to help your child(ren) prepare for photo day:

  • Parents, before your children leave for school on photo day, please remember to look them over and help them look their best. Faces that are clean and clothes that are stain-free will make for great photos!
  • Wearing glasses may result in glass glare and/or shadows on the face, and are difficult to retouch. For best results, please consider asking your child to remove their glasses for at least one photo.
  • Click Here to visit “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) about Photo Day.

Orange Shirt Day Observed

This Wednesday, September 29, students are encouraged to wear orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day (September 30).  We wear orange to show awareness to the struggles the indigenous peoples of Canada faced (and are still facing) due to residential schools.  As well, we wear orange to honour and remember those young lives lost during the residential school experience.  No money will be collected for this dress down day.  Our teachers will be working with their students to explain more about why we wear orange and what September 30 (National day of Truth and Reconciliation) is all about.

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

For those interested:  This free event is an opportunity to learn about Canada’s Residential schools and the impact still felt today as well as celebrate Indigenous culture. Participate in medicine bag workshops, taste Indigenous tea and indulge in several flavours of bannock while you wander through a variety of Indigenous art on display and for sale. Check out this link for more information.  https://globalnews.ca/event/8186696/orange-shirt-day/

Road Safety – Drop off & Pick up

Thank you parents for being careful and mindful during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. Please be aware that U-turns and/or stopping on the road to let out students out is not permitted and unsafe.  Instead, park your car in designated parking spots and then walk your child(ren) to the school parking lot. You may also choose to arrive earlier and drop off in our parking lot so you do not have to park or get out of the car.  This drop off is closed at 8:30 am.  Please allow yourself extra time and to follow the laws of the road.  We have a lot of littles to watch out for and we appreciate your time and attention at these critical times.

Terry Fox Dress Down

On Friday, October 1, 2021, we will be doing our whole school Terry Fox Run. This is a Dress Down day where students are invited to bring $2 (for Cancer Research) and wear their Canada colours (Red and White).  Please ensure that students are able to run comfortably in what they choose, and dress for the weather.

Terry Fox Run

Lets ‘Try like Terry’ to raise funds and awareness for Cancer research. Pledge sheets were sent home last week for you to start collecting pledges. If you require an additional pledge sheet please contact Mrs. Stiles at tstiles@hopelcs.ca. All pledge forms need to be returned to school by October 12. Cheques are to be made out to ‘Terry Fox Foundation’. Fundraising is optional, but all students will participate in the run at 9am on Friday, October 1. You are also able to donate online at: http://www.terryfox.ca/HopeLutheranChristianSchool. Together, we can make a difference.

This years incentives for fundraising are:

  • Lunch with Mrs. Watson for the child who raises the most money
  • Extra gym/recess time for the class with the most pledge participation
  • The opportunity to duct tape Mr. Mayer to the wall if the school raises over $2000
  • The opportunity to duct tape Mr. Lok and Mr. Mayer to the wall if the school raises over $3500

Looking for immediate opportunities for service?

  1. Our photo shoot sessions require a Photographer’s Assistant.  Please view the following signup for available time slots to serve:   Photo Sessions
  2. Have an eye for colour and design?  We’re looking for parents interested in corporate decor/interior design to serve on a decor committee for our new middle school location.  Contact Lisa at lklym@hopelcs.ca

Staff Appreciation

Last year our parents showed appreciation to our staff by supplying the staff rooms with treats and quick meal items such as granola bars, cookies, noodle bowls and canned soup.  Staff were touched by the gesture and enjoyed having a reason to get out of their classroom and meet in the staff room over a coffee and cookie.  Staff were also appreciative of a light meal of soup if  working late unexpectedly.

If parents would like to continue with this, you may drop off your food items to either campus office.  Every $10 spent on food items will count as 1 hour towards the parent participation hours.
