Road Safety – Drop off & Pick up

Thank you parents for being careful and mindful during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. Please be aware that U-turns and/or stopping on the road to let out students out is not permitted and unsafe.  Instead, park your car in designated parking spots and then walk your child(ren) to the school parking lot. You may also choose to arrive earlier and drop off in our parking lot so you do not have to park or get out of the car.  This drop off is closed at 8:30 am.  Please allow yourself extra time and to follow the laws of the road.  We have a lot of littles to watch out for and we appreciate your time and attention at these critical times.

Curriculum Evening – September 21

Our teachers are getting ready to share with you, our parent community, about their curriculum, routine, and expectations. This event will be an online event, 6:30 – 8:00 pm, due to indoor restrictions. Zoom information will be sent out today in a separate email.

REAL Day

Today all students visited different locations in our school to learn what the expectations are for their behaviour at Hope. Be sure to ask your children how they can be REAL (show Respect Encouragement Adoration Love) in chapel, with our computers, on the playground, in the bathrooms, or walking in the hallway. Ask them about the other locations they visited. A special thank you to our grade 5 leaders and for our parent volunteers.

Lice Check

This school year with COVID restrictions still somewhat in place, our lice checks will continue to be conducted from home.  We are asking all our elementary families to please conduct a lice check at home with their child(ren) and return a signed copy of the form provided indicating you have completed this. Students are to return the form to their teacher by Wednesday, September 22.

LICE CHECK FORM – (please complete & send back to teacher)

We are also attaching documents to help with the steps of a lice check and more information on what lice is, how to detect, and treat.  If you have further questions please contact Gail Madanayake at gail_espiritu@hotmail.com.

Individual Student Photo Day

Formal Uniform Required

Get ready to put on your best smile! Tuesday, September 28, is Individual Student Photo Day at the Elementary campus.  Students will be required to be in their formal uniforms.

Some tips from our photo company, Mountain West, to help your child(ren) prepare for photo day:

  • Parents, before your children leave for school on photo day, please remember to look them over and help them look their best. Faces that are clean and clothes that are stain-free will make for great photos!
  • Wearing glasses may result in glass glare and/or shadows on the face, and are difficult to retouch. For best results, please consider asking your child to remove their glasses for at least one photo.

Terry Fox Dress Down

On Friday, October 1, 2021, we will be doing our whole school Terry Fox Run. This is a Dress Down day where students are invited to bring $2 (for Cancer Research) and wear their Canada colours (Red and White).  Please ensure that students are able to run comfortably in what they choose, and dress for the weather.

Terry Fox Run

Our school will be participating in the Terry Fox Run again this year.  Pledge sheets will be sent home early this week. Fundraising is optional, but all students will participate in the run at 9:00 am on Friday, October 1. Let’s get our fundraising going and show everyone how we can “try like Terry”!

Donate to: http://www.terryfox.ca/HopeLutheranChristianSchool. Together, we can all make a difference.

More information will be provided in the Monday Note next week. Look out for some exciting incentives to raise money. Mr Lok, Mr Mayer and Mr O’Dell may be involved!!

Click here for some inspiration and information about this amazing initiative.

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:30 am (except for holidays).

Updated School Harvest Fest Pumpkin Patch Event

Due to continuing COVID limitations, the Harvest Festival, as previously planned, has been cancelled. Instead, on Friday, October 15, the PTL will be hosting a Pumpkin Patch at the Elementary campus with fun carnival games and costumes for the elementary students to enjoy during school hours and the middle school students are welcome to participate in the games from 3:00 – 4:30 pm.

Elementary students can come dressed in their favourite story book themed costume.

Examples could be: Cat & the Hat, Franklin, Captain Underpants, Rainbow Fairy Magic, Robin Hood…etc

Please note: costumes must be NON-scary and respectful to our church and community. If you are unsure please send an email inquiry.

More details on Volunteer opportunities and pumpkin purchases to follow.

Parent Volunteering

Please keep track of hours spent in helping the school.  Tracking sheets will be sent out within the next week or two and, once received from your Class Liaison, you may enter your hours there.

A reminder to parents to have a Criminal Record Check (CRC) on file with the school office.  Volunteer activities that have interaction with students require a current CRC. Please email Mrs. Klassen at pococampus@hopelcs.ca for the link and code to apply.

Lunch Supervision Needed

Thank you so much for the overwhelming number of replies to last week’s lunch hour supervisor sign up.

We are still looking for the following classes’ parents to help out:

  • KA on Mondays Only
  • 1A on Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday

The commitment will be from immediately until December 15, 2021.  If you are able to help out from 12:00 – 12:45 pm on one or more of these days, please email agneswhite0106@gmail.com

Staff Appreciation

Last year our parents showed appreciation to our staff by supplying the staff rooms with treats and quick meal items such as granola bars, cookies, noodle bowls and canned soup.  Staff were touched by the gesture and enjoyed having a reason to get out of their classroom and meet in the staff room over a coffee and cookie.  Staff were also appreciative of a light meal of soup if  working late unexpectedly.

If parents would like to continue with this, you may drop off your food items to either campus office.  Every $10 spent on food items will count as 1 hour towards the parent participation hours.

PTL Executive Call for Nominations

The PTL Executive positions are 2-year commitments and after the two years, the position is to be open for nominations to give any interested parents an opportunity to serve on the Executive.

The role of President has been filled by Lisa Klym for the last two years and the PTL is now accepting nominations for President.  Any parents wishing to step into this role, please email the PTL at hopelutheranptl@hopelcs.ca.  This call for nominations will be posted for four consecutive weeks and any nominations will be discussed and voted on at our November 4th PTL meeting.

Additionally, the role of Vice-President is vacant and available immediately for interested parents.  If you are interested in serving, have any questions or require further information, please email the PTL.

Thank you to Sue Corrigan for offering to act as our PTL Secretary.  We welcome Sue to our Executive team and look forward to working with her.

Family Portraits Fundraiser

A Family Portraits Fundraiser is being coordinated by our PTL, taking place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at select times from September 22 through October 23.  This is a great opportunity for families to have a professional photo taken with a portion of the session fee directly benefiting the school.  There are two locations to choose from – Pitt River Dyke and Peace Park.  Pets are welcome to be a part of the photo shoot as long as they are leashed and under the control of the adult pet owner.  Our photographer is our own Michelle O’Dell and a gallery of her work can be viewed on Facebook at Michelle Evans Photography or on Instagram at:

Community Relations

Day of Prayer

Hope Lutheran Church has invited our school community to join them in a Day of Prayer this Wednesday, September 22, to coincide with the fall equinox.  Staff and parents are encouraged to take 20 minutes during that day to remember our school, Hope Lutheran Church and our country in prayer.  There are a number of timeslots to choose from:  Day of Prayer signup.  Although not limited to this, prayer points have also been developed to help you pray specifically:  Prayer Points

Online Bible Reading Plans

Parents are encouraged to be involved in the community through an online Bible reading plan app, facilitated by Lisa Klym, Community Relations Officer.  Plans usually range from 7-14 days and each daily reading takes no more than 10 minutes.  Space is provided at the end of each daily reading for reflection and optional feedback to the group.  This is a great way to get to know other parents and be intentional about being in God’s Word.  Anyone is welcome to join.  Whether you are unsure of the Christian faith, new to the faith or a mature Christian, this is a safe space to explore and grow.

Supporting Our Hope Community

We like to support businesses within our Hope Community and tap into the talent and abilities represented by our parents in fulfilling areas of need around our facility and within our community.  Kindly review the following survey and provide as much detail as you can.

Inventory of Interests and Abilities

Newsletter

Opportunity to submit a completed word search puzzle from the September newsletter has been extended to September 24.  A hint – words such as “the, do, so, O” aren’t included.  There is only one 3-letter word, the rest are 4 letters or more.  Read our theme (that’s another hint) verse and see if you can find all 17 words related to our theme and the accompanying verse.

Submissions are open for the October newsletter.  Do you have an achievement or special event you’d like to share? How about a story of wonder and exploring God’s creation?  Please send your submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.
