Parent Teacher League (PTL) News

Our first PTL meeting was held on Friday, September 8, 9:00 am at the Port Coquitlam campus.  Please see the following link with the minutes from that meeting:

  1. Everyone is invited to Hope’s Annual Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, September 12, at the Port Coquitlam Campus in the gym at 6:30 pm.  Please RSVP at the link below so we can have an idea of how many people are planning to attend.

Volunteering at the Ice Cream Social is a great way to earn volunteer hours.  Please sign up at the link below:

  1. Fun Food day is Friday, September 15.  Parents from all grades are welcome to participate in bringing baked goods and serving.  We are in need for more lunch time and after school volunteers for the Fun Food, please sign up at the link below:

If parents would like to prepay for Fun Food for the year, it is $4.50. Please leave your money in the office with your child’s name and class noted.  Items can also be purchased for 50 cents.  After school, any leftover items will be sold for 25 cents.

  1. Hot Lunch is Friday, September 29.  Orders are entered online and payment submitted to the office.  Please create a new account as last year’s has been deleted. Credits and balances owing will be carried forward and applied to this year.

Currently ordering for Term 1 (September – January) is available.  Go to https://hopelutheranptl.hotlunches.net/  and enter code HLHL.

  1. Classroom liaisons are needed for Grades 1B, 7/8, and 9-12. 1. We are looking for volunteers for lunch time supervision 11:50 am – 12:50 pm each day.  This extra support is needed so the kids can go over to McLean’s Park.  Thank you so much for giving of your time in this area! You can sign up at the link below:

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

  1. Parking Lot Volunteers – 2-3 parents are required each morning at 8:25-9:05 am to assist students in exiting their vehicles at the drop off zone or to direct traffic in the parking lot.  Please contact Mrs. Eisner if you are available to help.
  2. Lunch Hour Volunteers – Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who have attended a lunch hour supervision training sessions. Due to popular demand, a third training will be offered on Friday, September 15 at 11:30 am. Please meet Mrs. Eisner in the office.
  3. Waste Management Volunteer – We would appreciate a parent who can put the school waste bins in the back alley for pick up each week (including Christmas/Spring Break). This is a job that fulfills your hours for the year. The containers need to be rolled into the alley before 7:30 am and can be rolled back into the staff parking area at the end of the day. One needs to keep track of the garbage, recycling and composting schedule as it can change with holidays. This is a great job for a working family who drops off and picks up their child from Before/After School Care. For more information, please contact Mrs. Eisner.

EAL Program

After school EAL program begins this week.  Contact Mrs. Olding if you have any questions.

Please join us to pray monthly from 8:55 – 9:25 am for our children, our families, the Staff and Teachers at Hope and our Community of Port Coquitlam. We will share and learn from one another, be inspired by Bible readings on prayer and of course – pray together! Email Tina Goetz for more info: mylifeforhis@shaw.ca

Location: Please meet in the Narthex/Foyer of the Port Coquitlam Campus at  8:55 am on the following dates:
Tuesday, September 12
Tuesday, October 3
Tuesday, November 7
Tuesday, December 5

Fall Sports

We are looking for parents to help with two planned sports programs for the Fall.

1) Fall Kilometre Club & Cross Country

A Fall Kilometer Club (Kindergarten to Grade 5) will be conducted on Mondays at lunch, as well as Wednesdays and Fridays after school (3:15-3:45 pm) provided that there are sufficient parent volunteers to help with setting up, tracking laps, and cleaning up on each of the days.   A Km Club permission slip will be sent home on Monday, September 11, and must be returned on Wednesday, September 13, for anyone wishing to participate (students as well as parents/siblings).

Parents or caretakers must be at McLean Park to supervise their child/children during Km Club after school on Wednesdays and Fridays.  However, while supervising your child you may want to run or walk yourself, or you can volunteer.  Volunteering for Km Club counts towards volunteer hours and there are volunteer opportunities before, during and after Km Club on Mondays at lunch as well as Wednesdays and Fridays after school.

For those parents wanting to volunteer for the Mondays at lunch an online Criminal Record Check is required to be completed.  The link and access code for the Criminal Record Check can be found in the Parent Information book that was given to all school families before the start of school in the home visit package, or you can stop by the Port Coquitlam school office.

Please see the sign-up link for volunteer descriptions and to register.

Grades 4 & 5 students who wish to participate in the October 18 Cross Country Meet must participate in this this Kilometer club on Mondays at lunch as well as their choice of Wednesday or Friday after school.

2) Grade 4 and 5 soccer

We would like to have a co-ed grade 4 and 5 soccer club after school. We need parents to help with coaching. Practice days would be either Tuesday or Thursday after school.

Please see Mr. Mathew ASAP so we can start these programs very soon.

Scholastic Book Orders

Book Orders were sent home with each student today.  They are due back to classroom teachers Monday, September, 18.  You may pay with cheques made out to Scholastic Canada, or online with your credit card.  More details are attached to the flyers.  If you are wanting flyers from different grade levels (gift ideas, siblings, reading levels, etc) there is an envelope with extras, on the mobile bulletin in the foyer, for you to help yourself.  If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Jennifer Watson (jwatson@hopelcs.ca).
