National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – NO SCHOOL IN SESSION

Curriculum Evening

Just a reminder that our curriculum evening for the Elementary campus (K-5) is happening tonight at 6:30 pm.  We will meet in the sanctuary to start with some whole school messaging on programs offered this year.  Afterwards we will send parents to their child(ren)’s respective classes for more information from the teacher regarding the curriculum, routines and procedures for their class.  For those unable to attend in person, teachers will be emailing out the slide presentations.

Terry Fox Dress Down

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, we will be doing our whole school Terry Fox Run. This is a Dress Down day where students are invited to bring $2 (for Cancer Research) and wear their Canada colours (Red and White).  Please ensure that students are able to run comfortably in what they choose, and dress for the weather.

Terry Fox Run

Lets ‘Try like Terry’ to raise funds and awareness for Cancer research. Pledge sheets were sent home for you to start collecting pledges. If you require an additional pledge sheet please contact Mrs. Stiles at tstiles@hopelcs.ca. All pledge forms need to be returned to school by October 6. Cheques are to be made out to ‘Terry Fox Foundation’. Fundraising is optional. You are also able to donate online at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/HopeLutheranChristianSchool. Together, we can make a difference.

This years incentives for fundraising are:

  • Lunch with Mrs. Watson for the child who raises the most money
  • Extra gym/recess time/movie lunch/freezies for the class with the most pledge participation
  • Dress down day for the whole school if we raise over $3500

All-Families Event

September 24th, 11:00 am is our Middle School Open House and Family Picnic at Aggie Park.  The Ceremony starts at 11:00 am at our Middle School Campus (2099 Lougheed Hwy) followed by campus tours and a BBQ and games in adjacent Aggie Park.  Attendance by middle school students is strongly encouraged to show support for their school and they are requested to arrive in uniform.

The deadline to pre-order your lunch is TODAY, September 20th.  Cash-only payment will be required on the day of the event.

We need one more parent to help with game supervision for each of the time slots.  Please sign up if you are able to help.

Bring your picnic blanket and chairs; bring a friend and introduce them to Hope; get ready to have fun.  A digital art card is available for you to forward to anyone interested in learning more about Hope.

Christmas Musical Auditions

We are preparing for a Christmas Musical for our Christmas season. Auditions are coming up… next week after school at the Elementary School campus. Auditions start at 3:15 pm and run until 4:30 pm next week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (September 26 – 29). Sign up sheets are coming out soon. Mr. Mayer Wrote A Children’s Book

Friendship is tricky – can you relate? Most people I know value their friends, however, they are often hard to come by. As an elementary school teacher, I’ve witnessed this time and time again with students. They want to make a new friend but struggle to know what to do and say. “Leroy the Raccoon” is a book that teaches children that this process doesn’t have to be so tricky. You can actually get to know someone relatively quickly by asking specific questions and listening well. It is my hope that this book helps children when interacting with their peers and also encourages them to look out for someone who is lonely and may need a friend.

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 25 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We will be meeting outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 9:00 – 9:25 am, starting September 12 (except for holidays).

PTL Executive Call for Nominations

The PTL Executive positions are 2-year commitments and after the two years, the position is to be open for nominations to give any interested parents an opportunity to serve on the Executive.

The roles of President and Vice-President are now open for nominations.  This call for nominations will be posted for four consecutive weeks and any nominations will be discussed at our November 17th PTL meeting.

The role of President has been filled by Lisa Klym for the last four years and this school year is Lisa’s final year as President.  Any parents wishing to step into this role, please email the PTL at hopelutheranptl@hopelcs.ca.

Additionally, the role of Vice-President is vacant and available immediately for interested parents.  If you are interested in serving, have any questions or require further information, please email the PTL.

Traditionally the Executive has consisted of a President and Vice-President, however, these roles can be interchangeable and shared between parents.  The titles can also change according to the desire of the person in the leadership position.

Please consider joining us as we engage in prayer for our church and school, our future plans and directions and the families in our community.

People of all languages are welcome; prayer does not need to be done in English.  Whether you are comfortable praying in public or not, you are welcome.  There is no signup; please, come as you are.  Children are encouraged to attend.
