Drop Off and Pick Up UPDATE

Thank you to the vast majority of our parents who continue to show patience and adherence to our drop off and pick up procedures.  However, we have noticed an increase in disputes/disagreements within our parent community and with our neighbours regarding these times.  Please note that:

  1. We do not stop or park on Frey street.  It is easily congested and restricts flow.  You may use Frey to drive through, but please do not stop or park on either side of that road.
  2. Parking lot drop off is at the BACK of the lot.  Do not stop or park in the front parking area, but drive through to the back (by the overpass) to let out your students.  This is the most time efficient way to let out students and not cause a traffic backlog in the lot.
  3. Please park in the appropriate spots at McLean Park or along York street.  At no time are drivers permitted to stop at the crosswalk or driveway to let out students.
  4. For the safety of all our children, ALL vehicles are to come to a complete stop at each stop line (Grant Ave. & Frey Pl.), looking both ways before proceeding.

We did have bylaw officers on site last week and will continue to ask them to come out to support our community in being respectful to our neighbours and each other.  If you notice people not following the expectations, please approach respectfully with grace and mercy to point out their mistake in a calm and peaceful manner.  It is getting darker and the weather is making it difficult to see our students and each other.  By following the expectations listed in our Handbook and registration booklet we can ensure a community of respect and safety for all.

Photo Retake Day

For those families desiring retake photos for their child(ren), or for families whose child(ren) were absent on the photo day at the end of September, please note Tuesday, October 25 is PHOTO RETAKE DAY.

REMINDER: Formal uniform is required for any students having their photo taken.

If your child has their photo card with the QR code please have your child bring that with them to the photo retake session.

Some tips from our photo company, Mountain West, to help your child(ren) prepare for having their photos taken:

  • Parents, before your children leave for school on photo day, please remember to look them over and help them look their best. Faces that are clean and clothes that are stain-free will make for great photos!
  • Wearing glasses may result in glass glare and/or shadows on the face, and are difficult to retouch. For best results, please consider asking your child to remove their glasses for at least one photo.

Christmas Musical Practice

There is a slight change in the schedule which was distributed last week. The new schedule is attached here.

Here is the practice schedule for this week:

Wednesday, October 26

Act Act 2: Scene 4 Storm Boat scene Jesus, Zebedee, James, Peter, John, Andrew, and Bud
Music Woody (Let Me Live To Serve You Lord)

No practice on Thursday, Oct. 27 due to there being no school that day.

Participation Opportunities

Parent Assistance Needed

One parent is needed to count out some promotional cards and distribute them to classes, one card for each family.  This job can be done at any point during the school day.

Another parent is needed to dust the contents of our trophy case and organize our awards into a meaningful display.

Please contact Lisa Klym (lklym@hopelcs.ca) to assist with the above two needs.

Our musical is in need of parental support in the way of building, costumes and make-up artistry.  Please see the Parental Assistance & Props List document to see where you can assist.

Food Provision – Student Service Project

Miss Markling is looking for donations of jam for her student service project in partnership with SOS ministries (see October newsletter for details).  Jam donations can be dropped off at the elementary campus office.  3 jars jam = 1 PP hour

Please browse the list of ongoing opportunities and let us know where you are able to lend a hand.

Upcoming Events

Please refer to our Community Calendar for a list of events throughout the year.

Our next PTL meeting takes place Thursday, November 17, at 7:00 pm over Zoom.  Please set aside that time to attend our meeting.  Connection details will be communicated closer to the date.
