Parent’s Night Out – Grade 8 Fundraiser

Need an evening out without the kids? We’ve got you covered!

The grade 8’s are hosting a Parent’s Night Out to fundraise for their upcoming mission trip and graduation. This will be a fun evening of pizza, popcorn, games and a movie for your children while you have an evening to yourself.

When: November 25th, 5:00 – 9:00 pm

Where: Elementary campus gym

Who: Ages 3 to 12 (able to use the toilet independently)

What: Labeled water bottle; blanket/pillow for movie

Cost: By donation

Sign up for this event by November 20th.

In partnership with BC Mission Boat Society, Hope Lutheran School is fostering a relationship in Kyuquot, a remote Indigenous community on Vancouver Island.  Last year our grade 8 class visited Kyuquot for the first time and developed some very meaningful relationships with members of the community.  Not only did our students impact the community of Kyuquot, the trip allowed our students to grow in their character and faith as they served and gave of their time for others.  We would like to build upon that relationship and return to Kyuquot with our current grade 8 class and you can be a part of that!   Your support for the spring mission trip is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for supporting the grade 8’s!

Dress Down Day

On Monday, November 21, we will be having a whole school dress down day to celebrate achieving our fundraising goals for our Terry Fox Run, which took place in September. There will be no charge for this dress down and no particular theme. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and their school day.

Parent Prayer

You are invited and welcome to join other parents and our school administration to pray (even if you’ve never prayed before!). Please consider setting aside 30 minutes of your time at the beginning of each week to join us for Parent Prayer as we pray for our school, families, and community.

We meet outside at the Elementary Campus by the main entrance.

Every Monday from 8:45 – 9:15 am (except for holidays).

Newsletter

Submissions are open for the December newsletter.  Please share your inspiring stories, special achievements and newsworthy events to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Christmas Giving

Our annual Christmas food drive will commence November 21 and run for two weeks to December 2.  Christmas hampers will be created for some families within our community and the surplus of donations will be given to the Share Community Food Bank.  Next week a list of specific items will be shared with all parents and donation boxes will be available in each classroom as well as at each school office.

Preferred general items are cereal, pancake mix, granola bars, juice boxes, canned fruits and vegetables, dried beans and lentils and canned fish.  When you’re at the grocery store, please consider picking up a non-perishable item for donation.

The contribution to this initiative is voluntary; parent participation hours are not given for food donations.

School Wide Family Bowling Night – November 19

Bowling attendees, please bring cash and support the Grade 8’s in their 50/50 ticket fundraiser for the spring mission trip.  Tickets will be 2 for $5 or an arm’s length for $10.

PTL Meeting

Our next PTL meeting is 7:00 pm Thursday, November 17th over Zoom.  Connection details will be shared closer to the meeting date.  Please review the September meeting minutes prior to the meeting as we will be voting to accept the minutes.

Coffee Fellowship

Our next coffee fellowship is Friday, November 18th at 8:30 am in the elementary campus parking lot.  Please join us for refreshments and conversation.  If you would like to contribute baked goods for participation hours, please let us know.

Participation Opportunities

Looking for an easy way to get some participation time in?  The leaves need to be pulled away from the curb along York Street to allow the water to flow freely to the catch basins.  Parents, pack a shovel and get a workout in after morning drop off.  It takes about 30-45 minutes to go from our driveway to Fraser Street and from the crosswalk on York to the south ball diamond area.

Parent Assistance Needed – Musical

Dance Moms – do you have a flair for performance make-up application?  If so, we need you!

Our musical is in need of parental support in the way of stage building, costumes and make-up artistry.  Please see the Parental Assistance & Props List document and sign up where you can assist.

School Needs

The elementary campus would like to explore the possibility of installing retractable awnings in the breezeway area between the main building and the south wing.  Participation hours will be given to the parent able to research and schedule supplier quotes.

Please contact Mrs. Watson for more information.

Food Provision – Student Service Project

Miss Markling is looking for donations of jam for her student service project in partnership with SOS ministries (see October newsletter for details).  Jam donations can be dropped off at the elementary campus office.  3 jars jam = 1 PP hour

Please browse the list of ongoing opportunities and let us know where you are able to lend a hand.
