1.PTL MEETING – PTL Meeting is Friday, May 5. This is the last meeting of the school year. Please see the following link for the agenda:
4. Used Uniform Sale – Parents are encouraged to buy/sell/trade K-12 uniform items May 1 – 5, 2:45 – 3:30 pm. Get your uniforms for next year. All families are responsible for their own items. If a parent is able to set up and take down the tables, please email the PTL at hopelutheranptl@hopelcs.ca.
Old Tartans – This is the last year students are permitted to wear the old tartan colour. Please save your old tartan uniforms and they will be collected from May 1st onwards to donate to Villages of Hope – Africa. All tunics, skorts and kilts must be clean and in wearable condition. Please do any repairs of hems, buttons, etc. before donating. A collection box will be placed in the foyer during the month of May.
Villages of Hope – Africa is a Canadian charitable organization bringing hope to children in need throughout six countries in Africa. The mission of Villages of Hope-Africa is to bring lasting hope to orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with love and care so they can embrace adulthood as contributing members of society. Their programs provide education, nutrition, shelter, and healthcare.

Father Daughter Dance – 6:30 pm, Friday, May 12. Invitations were sent home with all the girls at the Port Coquitlam campus. If you are planning to attend, please return them with payment to the school office.
Crosswalk
Please ensure that an adult is assisting your child across York Street, as Mrs. Malmberg may not always be available at the crosswalk.
Sports Day
Sports Day is coming up on Friday, May 26. It will be a rain or shine event. Many volunteers will be needed to help make this event a success. Please see the following link to sign up to volunteer. Any questions can be directed in an email to Maria at msvandeleur@gmail.com.
Triathlon – Creek Classic
Congratulations to our 47 elementary students who participated in the Creek Classic Triathlon on Saturday! It was such a joy to see you swim, bike and run your hearts out, and celebrate with you when you crossed the finish line! We are so proud of the way you represented our school, and used the athletic abilities God has given you. Well done!

KM Club
Parents or caretakers must be at McLean Park to supervise their child/children during Km Club.
KM Club is currently scheduled to end this week.
Depending on accumulated distance completed, participants will receive participation ribbons, medals or trophies! Refreshments will be sold for after Km Club for $1. Funds raised by the sales go towards the, ribbons medals and trophies.
School Operations Committee (SOC)
The School Operations Committee (SOC) is comprised of interested stakeholders (parents of students attending HLCS, members of Hope Lutheran Church, or members of the greater community). This committee was recently established as a result of changes in the governance of Hope Lutheran Church. Members of the SOC work under the school administrators to assist in a variety of areas. Applications are now being accepted for a volunteer who has abilities in the area of policy writing.
The portfolio requires:
- Work with the Principals to create and update policies as needed
- Research policies in other schools to glean information about what might work at Hope.
- Presents proposed policies or changes to the Principals and SOC
- Updates the Policy document for the school
- Attend monthly meetings
Criteria for the position:
- involvement in a Christian church and an understanding of Christian education
- evidence of strong written communication skills
Preferred:
- experience in policy writing
- knowledgeable in Canadian laws

CAT 4 Testing
This week, May 1 – 5, grades K – 3 and grades 5 & 6 will be participating in our annual school standardized testing. Please ensure your child is prepared by being well rested and nourished.
Track & Field
The Grades 4-6 classes are now starting their unit on track and field in Physical Education. We will be practicing on Wednesdays from 10:45-11:45 and Thursdays at the same time.
We will be practicing rain or shine, so students need to have their gym strips for all practices and be dressed for the weather. This is in preperation for our Track and Field meet at Swanguard Stadium on Tuesday, May 30.
More information about this including a permission slip willing be coming out to students the first week of May.
We will be looking for parent volunteers to help at the track meet, so please indicate if you are able to come and help with supervising when the permission slip comes out. We look forward to getting ready for this fun track meet.

Elections BC
Hope Lutheran Church & School, the Port Coquitlam campus, will be an advance polling station for the upcoming BC provincial election. Elections BC will be using the gymnasium 8:00 am – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 3 – Saturday, May 6.
Cambridge Uniforms Fitting Day
Hope Lutheran’s uniform supplier, Cambridge Uniforms, will be holding a Fitting Day at the Port Coquitlam Campus on Monday, May 8.
Information regarding how to schedule a booking time for a fitting on May 8, has been sent out in an email.
Parent Prayer
A parent from the Port Coquitlam campus has organized a once a month prayer time for parents/family members of Hope Lutheran Christian School:
