Community Relations

Community Newsletter

Submissions are open for the March newsletter.   Do you have a story idea or a newsworthy event you’d like to share?   If so, we’d like to hear from you.

Submissions to Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Submission deadline:  March 13

Publication date:  March 30

Daytime Photographer Required

Do you have a knack for photography and have time during the day to take photos at the school? We would like to have a variety of photos taken of students and teachers in their classrooms and in learning activities throughout the day at both campuses.  These photos would be used to update the website and be included in various forms of media such as the annual report. Interested photographers, please contact Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Parents who do not want photos of their child taken, please ensure the office has a current “do not photograph” request on file.

At-Home Volunteer Opportunity

The Yearbook Committee would like our event photos “tagged” with the names of students attending events.  Parents, team up with your child and identify as many faces as you can. All you need is time at home and a computer.  Detailed instructions will be provided.

Interested parents, please contact Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

Hearts for Hope – Capital Campaign

Dumpling Sale Tomorrow!

Handmade beef and pork dumplings will be available for sale tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10 at the Port Coquitlam campus after school.  $50 will get you a family pack of beef and pork dumplings and a package of sweet sesame rice balls.  Individual bags are available for purchase as well.

Thank you to those families who have supported our fundraising efforts for a new bus.  Not only does our bus service provide before and after school transportation between the campuses, it is also utilized for field trips, which reduces the number of parent drivers required.  As reported in our February newsletter, the cost savings of owning our own bus versus leasing could be upwards of $8,000 per year! Please continue to support this worthwhile fundraiser through online donations on our website.

If you wish to receive a tax receipt please visit hopelcs.ca/school and click on the green “Donate” button in the upper right corner.  Your tax receipt will be emailed to you along with a confirmation receipt of your donation.

PTL Coffee Fellowship – March 13

Our next Coffee Fellowship is this Friday, March 13.  Please stop in to say hello and chat with other parents and school administration.

If you wish to provide baking or are available to help set up, please view the following link:  PTL Coffee Fellowship

PTL General Meeting

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend our PTL meeting last Friday.

Kilometre Club

Our very popular Kilometre (Km) Club will be starting after spring break.  This is a chance for all students to get out and enjoy outdoor physical activity with their friends and parents after school at McLean Park.  Km Club will start on Monday, April 6th and run until Monday, May 11th. The run days are M/W/F from 3:15-3:45 pm. If you are not a runner then consider walking the route; join us in being active and enjoying the fresh air.  Anyone interested in participating, please use the online registration form: Spring Km Club.  Registration closes March 13th.

If you are able to volunteer to help coordinate Km Club or assist on run days, please sign up at the following link:  Km Club Volunteering

Please note, we need to have two volunteers trained this spring to be a Timekeeper and Event Coordinator (jobs can be combined to one position) for the club to carry forward to next fall.  We have one parent ready to assist and we need one more. This is an easy but necessary part of Km Club – without these positions filled, the club cannot function.  Please consider helping in this capacity.  Job descriptions are available by contacting Lisa Klym at lklym@hopelcs.ca.

  4. The Well:  Our food services club, The Well, is in need of one parent a week to assist in the clean up each Friday after the meal service.  If you are able to spare an hour over the lunch period, they would greatly appreciate your assistance. Please sign up at the following link:  “The Well” Clean Up
  5. Lunchtime Supervision:  We are looking for volunteers for lunchtime supervision at the Port Coquitlam campus from 11:50 am – 12:45 pm each day.  This extra support is needed so the students can go over to McLean Park. Excel Martial Arts

We are excited to welcome Excel Martial Arts to our school for the week of March 9-13. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 will participate in martial arts classes on March 9 and March 12. Students in Grade 3 to Grade 5 will participate in martial arts classes during their regularly scheduled PE blocks on March 10 and March 13. Students will be asked to have bare feet during classes – it is best if girls wear socks, not tights on the days they have martial arts. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s PE teacher (K-2 is Mr. Mayer jmayer@hopelcs.ca and 3-5 is Mrs. Olding lolding@hopelcs.ca.

Passion Project Fair

Please come join us this Thursday, March 12 between 1:00 -3:00 pm or 6:00 – 7:30 pm for our school’s Passion Project Fair. Students in our school have worked hard to create interesting displays and videos to showcase their passions and talents. If your child requires a school device to display their video, please send the video to Ms. Hamp at khamp@hopelcs.ca. Hope to see many of you on Thursday!

Grade 4 & 5 Track and Field

It’s hard to believe, but Track and Field season is almost here! Practices at our elementary campus will start on Friday, April 3 and run until Friday, May 22 (no practice May 15).

Students in grades 4 & 5 will practice together on Tuesdays from 9:00-9:45 am and Fridays from 2:00-3:00 pm.

We will be holding an in-school standards meet for all students in Grades 4-7 at Percy Perry Stadium on Thursday, May 14. Select students will also get to participate in the Christian Elementary School Sports track and field meet on Tuesday, May 26.

Parent volunteers are needed for all practices and both meets. Parents do not need to be athletic or skilled in a specific event – we need help with a variety of tasks including timing, recording scores, and helping with supervision.

Please indicate your availability on this form: https://forms.gle/tMb5YTgQtp6rEwRP9

Union Gospel Mission (UGM)

For the last 5 years, Hope Lutheran has partnered with UGM – New Westminster financially through our Wednesday Chapel offerings, as well as physically with donations of new socks and toiletries for those in need, and we are excited to partner with them again for the 2019/2020 school year.

From now until Spring Break, students and families are encouraged to bring donations to school, which will be collected on Wednesdays during our school chapel service. During the service, students will have an opportunity to bring their donations to the altar.

For Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40

Items that are most in need are:

New socks – Men’s and Women’s

Deodorant – Men’s and Women’s

Razors – Men’s and Women’s

Travel size toiletries

“Demonstrating the love of Christ, Union Gospel Mission is determined to transform communities by overcoming poverty, homelessness, and addiction – one life at a time.”

Please help us as we seek to help those who are struggling and in need.
