Jennifer Watson- Interim Principal

Mrs. Watson has been part of Hope Lutheran Christian School’s learning community since 2007 and has taught grades three and two, while supporting the administration in various roles throughout the years.  While in her post-secondary studies at Douglas College and Simon Fraser University, she led youth groups at Hope Lutheran Church and discovered her passion and calling to teach young people about God’s abundant love and mercy.  Mrs. Watson and her husband have two children who currently attend Hope Lutheran Christian School. She is an avid reader and enjoys spending time with her family, playing board games, working on puzzles, and doing crafts.

Andrew Shutsa – Middle School Vice-Principal

My name is Dr. Andrew Shutsa and I will be joining you at Hope Lutheran Christian School as the Middle School Vice Principal and teacher – and I could not be happier!

I am new to British Columbia this academic year. I am originally from Elmira, Ontario, a small rural town just outside Kitchener-Waterloo.

I graduated from York University in Toronto with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Sociology as well as my Bachelor of Education. I have also enjoyed graduate work, as my time teaching has led me to a masters degree from the University of Northern Iowa in the USA in 2016 where I also earned my administrator’s license, and in October 2020 I graduated with a doctorate in education from Western University in Ontario.

My love of learning and travel took me to study abroad classes in the UK and India. Still keen to explore the world, my teaching career took me to Canadian, American and International Baccalaureate (IB) Curriculum Schools around the globe! I have had the privilege of teaching in schools in Incheon, South Korea; Seoul, South Korea; Doha, Qatar and Dubai, UAE.

After classroom teaching I moved into administration, becoming a Vice Principal at a Canadian school in Bangkok, Thailand, and then an American school in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I worked as a Vice Principal and Social Studies teacher for an online school based in Florida since moving to BC in August 2021 and then joined the HLCS family in April 2022.

HLCS will be my fourth school as a Vice Principal – and I am excited to be a part of this community!

I also have taught classes at Trinity Western University in their Faculty of Education here in the lower mainland.

Personally, I enjoy campfires, reading biographies, the great outdoors and playing hockey!

I look forward to working with your children and getting to know your families!
Please feel free to contact me anytime!

      Clare Wood – Registrar

Before becoming part of the staff at Hope Lutheran Christian School in 2005, Mrs. Wood enjoyed being part of the Hope community as a parent of two Hope students and a volunteer. Born in Vancouver, Mrs. Wood grew up in Port Coquitlam and attended UBC to study Urban Land Economics. Using her organizational and management skills in a setting where she can experience God’s grace and mercy both personally and in the lives of the students, parents, and staff has been an incredible blessing for Mrs. Wood. When not helping to keep things running smoothly at the school, Mrs. Wood enjoys reading, taking landscape photos, and throwing the ball for her family dog, Mickey. Mrs. Wood recently got her motorcycle license; both her and her husband are looking forward to exploring more of Canada and the USA on two wheels.

Janice and her family moved from Vancouver Island to Port Coquitlam in 2013,  with Janice joining the Hope Lutheran staff in the beginning of 2014. Stephanie Mayer – Director of Parish Services

Stephanie is excited to receive her first call to Hope Lutheran Church.  She is familiar with the Lower Mainland, as she grew up in Surrey and is looking forward to exploring the Tri-Cities.  She completed her post-secondary education at Concordia University of Edmonton.  Stephanie loves walking with other followers of Jesus as we all grow in our knowledge of His great grace.  Lately, she has seen God working as he provides for her and her family.  She has also felt His encouraging to trust in Him and His will.  When not working, Stephanie likes to explore and hike, play guitar, and crochet.
